TKC FRIDAY FACE-OFF: HOMICIDE RATE PLUMMETS 20% ONE YEAR AFTER CHIEF FORTÉ RETIRES!!! IS NEWBIE TOP COP SMITH KEEPING KANSAS CITY SAFER?!?!
There's a trend taking hold in Kansas City that every other media outlet is missing and it's a rare bit of good news that our TKC blog community will report FIRST and then we'll watch every other news station in town follow our journalistic goodness.
See, here at TKC we give CREDIT WHERE IT'S DUE and that's why we're not afraid to link and/or talk about opposing viewpoints or challenge popular perceptions in our relentless pursuit of the scoop and the only real ALTERNATIVE reporting on local life. Meanwhile, local chat shows and TV news program directors pretend ignore the growing influence of our merry band of chatterboxes over policy and reporting throughout the metro.
Enough prelude . . . Here's what everybody is missing:
RIGHT NOW KANSAS CITY'S MURDER RATE HAS PLUMMETED BY 20% ONE YEAR AFTER NEW KCPD CHIEF SMITH ASSUMED COMMAND!!!
Here's the newly released stats to back up our FIRST reporting:
At this moment . . .
KCMO counts 49 homicides compared to 61 last year for a drop of about 20% year to date.
Former Chief Forté retired in May of 2017 and one year later Chief Smith has FINALLY earned some success in curbing the local murder numbers.
Some of his accomplishments so far also include but aren't limited to:
- Reestablishing Community Interaction Officers at the request of neighborhood leaders.
- Pioneering social workers for all patrol divisions.
- Fighting for budget consideration from Mayor Sly & City Council during a heated debate over dispatchers.
Now, before we heap too much praise on Chief Smith, it's important to also acknowledge that former Chief Forté also touts an all-time record low year of homicides number during his tenure -- 2014 saw only 82 murders which was the lowest in the modern era.
And while Summer hasn't officially started and the murder rate could spike after any given weekend . . . It's important to note progress when we talk about protecting lives in Kansas City.
So we throw the question back to our blog community . . .
IS CHIEF SMITH DOING A BETTER JOB THAN HIS PREDECESSOR AND CAN HE KEEP LOCAL MURDERS IN CHECK???

This is a competition that I'd like to see all local chief's have. Who can keep the murder rate the lowest? The winner should be celebrated along with everybody who puts forward an honest effort to reduce the numbers because Mayor & council want to pretend like the problem doesn't exist.

ReplyDelete^^ One more thing, I applaud the Chief for getting the murder rate down but while nobody was looking the number of parking tickets must've tripled. Forte at least didn't cave to City Hall pressure to step up taxation & fee collection via the police department. That impacts a lot of residents and visitors as well.

As I stated the crime will move to the suburbs and small towns. The Drugs the dealers THE DISTRIBUTION gangs will be shooting each outher .THE people with the money to buy the drugs are in the suburbs. And police presence is up in Kansas CITY Missouri. KCMO.POLICE WILL MAKE IT HARDER TO DO BUSINESS .Watch the crime rise in the burbs.
