SILICON PRAIRIE TECH TESTIMONY: STINGY KANSAS CITY SHORTCHANGES STARTUPS!!!

Credit to local biz blogging for offering a bit of balance in between so much hype about the creative class despite a dearth of jobs.

Take a look:

Startland: Entrepreneur who left KC: Lack of funding, competitive pay drove me away

"I left Kansas City because of the lack of future-tech thinking and companies willing to pay for talent — I moved to Austin, Texas."

For those who know anything about development, there's too much detail here to deny and great FIRST PERSON perspective on a local tech scene that's behind the times in terms of finances, coding and so much more.

You decide . . .

  2. Austin doesn’t even have a streetcar. Plus we have way more faggots in our homosexual community. That guy will really miss Kansas City.

  3. I wish him well in Austin, but the heat and the property taxes there are both brutal.

  4. I lived in austin for a very long time and KC is 10x's the town austin is in almost every regard...and even moreso after it became overcrowded and priced like san francisco. It's a fun town, but very one dimensional. In fact, one of the guys that started SXSW, Louis Meyers, moved to KC to get away from the shitshow that austin had become -- and he was a lifelong austin resident who loved that place, but ended up liking KC even more now that austin sucks. He died a few years ago. RIP bro

  5. two-thirds of those companies he is bitching about are hugely profitable real companies with huge tech infrastructures. Are they supposed to rip and replace just to have the latest open source cool tools?
