Listen To Kansas City Star Tim Finn Legacy

More insight on the decline of the Kansas City Star and one of their top denizens of the local music community.

LONG, LONGTIME readers of this blog know that the music dude was once featured on this blog in an unflattering light. Turns out, we met Mr. Finn a few times in the aftermath of the silly post and he was not only completely professional following the nasty TKC hit piece but able to offer a great deal of insight on the local news game.

Accordingly, this review is worth a look if only for insight on how MSM defined KC's music scene before the advent of social media. Read more:

Veteran Kansas City Music Critic Tim Finn: What You Don't Know From His Reviews

In the early 2000s, Tim Finn was raising two young daughters while working as The Kansas City Star's full-time pop music critic. His wife, Lauren Chapin, was the paper's food critic. They were eating in restaurants, bringing home tons of free music and going to shows all the time.

  1. He was an excellent music reporter. Far better than the Star deserved. When they fired him and kept Sanchez and Hoopz, it told us all we needed to know about the reasons for the imminent demise of the newspaper.

  2. Thanks for showing this. I didn't know he had been let go but I figured as much, having nor seen him in a while. I will definitely be looking up his blog. I used to love the Star and truly miss it. I know it is still around but I don't read it because the Star isn't really around anymore, just an unreasonable facsimile. Less real news is bad for everybody. The demise of the Star saddens me but less and less content for more and more money is a bad business plan.

  7. I've known tim for a long time and he's one of my good friends. He really is a great and kind dude. Sometimes it's hard to separate how much we hate the star and the people that work there but he's a good dude who'd give you the shirt off his back
