Accordingly . . .

Jackson County Executive announces nominating committee for Jackson County Sheriff

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Jackson County Executive Frank White, Jr. has announced a nominating committee to help appoint a Jackson County Sheriff, who will serve the remainder of the year.

Members of the nominating committee are:

- Alfred Jordan (Chair) – 2nd District Jackson County Legislator
- Crystal Williams – 2nd District At-Large Legislator
- Tony Miller – 3rd District At-Large Legislator
- Jean Peters Baker – Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney
- Chief Rick Smith – Kansas City Police Department
- Chief Dave Starbuck – Grain Valley Police Department
- Rick Inglima – President, Missouri State Fraternal Order of Police
- Tammy Dickinson – Former United States Attorney
- Dr. Wallace Hartsfield, II – Pastor, Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church

“I want to commend the members of this committee for coming together to professionalize this process,” White said. “This is an important decision for the safety and welfare of our community and I am grateful for their support.”

The nine-person nominating committee will conduct candidate interviews publicly on Friday, May 4 from 9am-Noon at the offices of the Mid-America Regional Council, 600 Broadway in Kansas City, MO. However, the committee holds the prerogative to conduct private interviews if a candidate demonstrates extenuating circumstances.

All candidates are required to hold these times until further notice. The committee requests that candidates not sit in on each other’s interviews.

The Jackson County Sheriff must meet the following qualifications:

- Democrat (same political party as previous office holder)
- Qualified voter
- No felony conviction
- Resided in Jackson County for three years prior to assuming office
- POST certified

Candidates will also be subject to a background check and drug test. Human Resources professionals will review the applications for qualifications and the committee will interview the finalists. Resumes will be held in confidence until the candidates have authorized public release.

Interested candidates can submit their application through the Jackson County website at www.jacksongov.org/interimsheriff. The deadline for submission is Monday, April 30 at 5 p.m.

Following interviews, the committee will meet in closed session to discuss the finalists and submit 2-3 recommendations to the County Executive, who will make the final selection.

Community members will be given a brief opportunity to address the committee during this process. Citizens who want to speak are encouraged to sign up in advance. They can also submit a comment, suggestion or question to be shared with the committee. Such requests can be made through the Mid-America Regional Council’s website at http://www.marc2.org/assets/jacksoncounty.

  1. It's a dangerous job for a lot of reasons but mostly because the last guy who had it is now at the center of an investigation.

    1. Qualification: Democrat.

That says a lot right there.

    2. It really is time to clean up the county. I'm glad that Frank is now including members of the legislature in this decision but let's get real. The public needs to be involved and we need more transparency in the selection process. A public forum like what happened with the new KCPD Chief might be a good idea.

    3. The law requires the appointee to be the same party as the person who left the seat. Sharp ran for office as a Democrat. Frank has no choice about this.

  2. Politicians selecting a new Sheriff during an election season. What could go wrong?

  3. 8:37 Must be Democrat, really? This whole area has gone to hell because of the Democrats, didn’t know that was even legal, sounds like discrimination to me. whatever happened to most qualified?

  4. By the way I was agreeing with your comment

  5. It’s an elected position, just as your slimy governor will be replaced by a republican when he is removed from office.

    1. Yes, the Gov will be replaced by a Republican. But that is because his replacement is the light governor. If the lt Gov were a Democrat, greitens'replacement would be Democrat. The difference hereis that there isn't a lt. sherriff.

  6. Qualification: Must be a Democrat

Wow! Everybody knows that of course, but I'm surprised they apparently put it in writing!

    Can you say JOB DISCRIMINATION?

An otherwise qualified candidate who identified themselves as politically Independent would be rejected? And then immediately file an employment discrimination lawsuit against Jackson County and use the County's own written communication to win the case.

    DEMOCRATS ARE DUMB

  7. I'd be perfect for the job but I'd piss all the black people off right away with my new stop and search policies.

  8. Frank has provided fir public input into this process, please see above. He also has actually put political opponents on the committee (JPB). What more transparency could you possibly need? I’m impressed he’s gone this route and I applaud his efforts.

  9. Does the job come with a paramour, or will the incumbent have to provide that himself?

  10. ^^^^ now that’s funny right there!

Maybe sLIE can loan out one of his many white women! Lmao!

  11. "The candidate will allow viewing booths big enough for two and at least one orgy room at Erotic City."

  12. Sheriff Buford T Justice4/21/18, 1:27 PM

Time to file a LAWSUIT against the Pathetic Degenerates inside Jackson County for "Discrimination" !!!

Imagine the hundreds of MILLLIONs they'll have to pay out for DISCRIMINATION , requiring only a Democrat become Sheriff ??????

Lawyers will have a field day !!!

  13. The Sheriff of Jackson County does almost nothing. They have a very small road patrol and they do courthouse security. Neither of which they do very well. This is no big deal. Pick someone that's not crimimal and move on.

  14. Why no mention of the fact that the voters will now vote for a sheriff in November? One of the requirements for whoever Frank White appoints ought to be that this person not run in the election.

    ReplyDelete
  15. What a farce. Frank White is under investigation and will probably be resigning himself within a year, yet he gets to pick the next sheriff with only token input from the public. Maybe the state auditor will be able to find out about Frank's crooked dealings with Mike Sanders. At the very least, she ought to find out about misappropriating funds, stealing from COMBAT, payroll fraud and rampant credit card abuse.

    1. The charter doesn’t require him to get any input from anyone. Yet he is. Even from people who have done nothing but attempt to obstruct him at every turn. Someone should ask Dan and Denny why they supported Sharp and just moments ago were rallying for that misogynistic predator to add another 200+ staff at the jail to his little black book of employees to exploit for sexual gain. They’ve known about the sheriff at least since last fall—-all of them.

    2. I think it was Frank White who called one poor woman's rape in the jail "old news." They are all pieces of shit.

    3. 2:45 And they were just as wrong when they voted to make an incompetent and corrupt ex-jock county executive.

  16. I have 2 women on a separate leashes. Does that meet the qualifications?

    ReplyDelete
  17. The only qualification to be sheriff is to be a criminal.
