Kansas City businessman demands action to reduce homicide rate

A local businessman says Kansas City's murder rate is at a crisis level and he wants elected officals to take bold action. Bill George, CEO of Kansas City Transportation Group, sent an open letter to Kansas City Mayor Sly James in which he says he will not contribute to political campaigns until city leaders develop a solid plan to address violent crime.

Second man charged in connection with shooting death of 20-year-old Independence woman

A second man has been charged in connection with the April 19th shooting death of 20-year-old Abigail Edwards. Edwards was found shot to death inside a home in the 500 block of South Oxford Avenue in Independence after someone fired shots from a vehicle outside of that home.


Hospital Copes With More Local Gunfire

Independence Police investigating after bullet holes were found in a medical facility

It's a scary sight - cracks in the windows of an Independence medical facility appear to come from bullet holes. The Independence Police Department is investigating after what appears to be bullet holes were located on the windows of the Fairmount Family Medical Facility at 606 Hardy Avenue.
