A Kansas City mom is frustrated over how she and her son were treated at the North Kansas City YMCA . . . She claims her family was discriminated against Sunday while visiting the kid's pool at the recreational center, located on Iron Street.
"The YMCA is a diverse place where you should feel comfortable and I didn't feel comfortable that day at all."
The sordid story relies solely on the testimony of the mad mommy and only one example of alleged favor with little context. Apparently the white lady lifeguard was much nicer to another white family . . . Maybe she knew them, maybe they were related . . . It's quite likely the lifeguard might have just been a jerk for reasons not solely racially motivated - Which is typically the case for most people walking the planet.
The reality is that this story was picked up because of social media echo chamber pressure & grumbling as shares & likes influence news editors without self-confidence in the fading "authority" of their institutions.
Nevertheless, there is a dangerous precedent set if every angry mommy makes the news because they feel slighted for whatever reason. It seems that local journalism and the "agenda setting function of media" is in jeopardy and INCREASINGLY FAILS to filter out the garbage floating around betwixt FB fake news and Twitter bots.
Even worse, this focus on petty kiddie pool discourse distracts from very real concerns about racial discrimination that impact all of society.

This one was really frivolous. There are much more serious complaints to report, even consumer complaints. Unfortunate that this story took away from others that deserved more coverage.

For several years now, the media has been on a mission to demonize law enforcement and promote the false belief that innocent black men are routinely assassinated for walking down the sidewalk.
It's part of a larger narrative to promote racial discord, increase distrust of law enforcement, keep blacks in a mental prison of victimhood, and distract the public while building out the total surveillance infrastructure.
Oh, they're "armed" alright. They kick, punch, spit, squirm, and threaten they'll sue while yelling louder by the minute. It has gotten worse since Barry emboldened and coddled his "If I Had A Son" crimmies with his cop hating and early prison releases.

The NKC YMCA is one of the most diverse in the area. People should pay a visit to the welcome desk and watch the number of minorities stream in to the facilities. Sheesh, folks. Not only does the facility serve EVERYONE, the staff is the most helpful and friendly I've ever seen.

ReplyDeleteNobody goes there on weekends, those two days are totally devoted to a strange African Game called "B-Ball" which no one understands, it seems to consist of standing on a Basketball Court holding a ball while conducting a contest to see who can yell the loudest, finishing off with running in groups through the hallways and exercise rooms of the building.

ReplyDeleteWe go there all the time this lady was told her kid had to be 8 years old or pass the 6 foot swim with no life jacket to ride slide.It had nothing to do with race at all.One of the lifeguards was black & tried to calm her down.The rules there are simple & posted she just wanted to break them for her family when other kids couldn't ride due to the posted rules.Im white in 12 year biracial marriage & up there daily.This was fake news.
