A longstanding complaint remains unanswered or at least put on hold . . . Like a great many emergency calls. Take a look:
New budget includes 8 of 21 new dispatchers KCPD requested
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - While spending on public safety is increased in a new budget proposed by the city, KCPD will not get some of the staff they've requested. To address long 911 wait times, Chief Smith suggested adding 21 new police dispatchers.
KCPD dispatchers are the most overworked and underpaid people on the police department. The amount of work and stress and forced overtime they have to deal with is unparalleled. They need help now.
ReplyDeleteOur city leaders have no desire to actually serve the people.
ReplyDeleteDress the dispatchers up as developers and lawyers; city leaders will be hauling briefcases full of cash across the street to 1125.

ReplyDeleteSo when Sly James son attacks us we still have a long wait time? Perfect!
Par for the course with this City Manager. Just look at his track record of screwing KCPD since he took over. Cut the PD buget at every opportunity, then when crime goes up, hide behind the excuse that public safety already gets a large percentage of the budget. And say the PD just needs to do a better job of allocation resources. Homicides be damned.
ReplyDeleteThe easiest job at KCPD is as a 911 dispatcher.
ReplyDeleteAnswer the phone every once in a while. Easy money.
Just have the new social workers that the PD is hiring answer the phones.
ReplyDeleteThey can discuss philosophy and social theory with the caller and help them understand the underlying social factors that have compelled the thug breaking into their house or beating them up to act they way they do.
Remember: Destructive behavior is NEVER the fault of the perpetrator. It's EVERYONE'S problem.
And in KCMO be sure to NEVER identify and address the real issue that a small percentage of a minority population creates the vast majority of the chaos and tragedy.
How's Mike's new hotel coming?
So I guess we still have to call Dunkins if we need a cop?
ReplyDeleteKCPD sucks.
