Man taken into custody after hours-long standoff with police

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police have taken a man into custody after a four-hour standoff at a motel near I-29 and Barry Rd. Police were called to the motel in the 8200 block fo NW Prairie View Rd. for an armed, suicidal person. Nearby roadways were closed off as police tried to make contact with the man.

Man hospitalized after retirement community catches fire in KCK

A Kansas City, KS, retirement community had to be evacuated and one man was taken to the hospital after a fire early Monday morning. The flames started at about 12:15 a.m. on the fourth floor of the Cross-Lines Retirement Center, located at 3100 Powell Avenue.

Wrestling coach says teen killed was outgoing and loving kid

KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- A local wrestling team is mourning the loss of one of their own after a teen was found shot to death in the Maple Hill Laundromat near Gibbs Rd. and S. 34th St. Police say an employee opening the laundromat Saturday morning found the teen around 7 a.m.
