Missouri shuts out STL-area firms on state capitol repairs

The state of Missouri is telling three St. Louis contracting firms they cannot bid on a $30 million project to repair the state capitol, while allowing four out of state firms to compete for the job. "It stings pretty bad," says Dan Staat of Staat Tuckpointing in south St. Louis County.

  1. The real question is why a Missouri-based firm freaks out of entitled to the job.

  2. ^^Well shit-for-brains the real answer is that those firms employ Missouri residents and that money would stay in state rather than going out-of-state. But I mean that's a pretty simple answer you stupid mother fucker. Simper off now.

  4. No they are not entitled to be able to bid on a project. There are a series of qualifications that all bidders must meet. On State projects, these qualifications are seldom waived. Anything with federal money they are NEVER waived. These guys either submitted an incomplete (thus disqualifying) bid, or their submittal of qualifications did not meet the spelled out itemized list that the bidder MUST MEET in order to be qualified to submit a bid. Yes, it sucks, yes, I would like to see quantified/codified changes that would give preference to State-based firms. However, that's not in the cards currently. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with politics however much Staat would like to make it seem. Maybe they did skate with political pressure on previous jobs and can't now. Maybe its "playing by the rules" that they don't like.
