TKC Saturday Night Playlist: Kansas City Downtown Development Agenda Crumbling

Trendspotting tonight for our weekly list of tunes . . .

Amid EPIC pushback from tax fighters, political infighting and corporate intrigue . . . The selfish effort to put downtown development above every other KCMO priority has stalled.

Examples:

- Private financing for the hotel has yet to come to fruition as far as the public is concerned.

- The streetcar now confronts more substantial push back from the public after a vote demanding citywide approval of future building.

- A horrific crime rate throughout Kansas City has eclipsed the benefits of the Downtown luxury living space boom used to sell the illusion of "progress" to voters.

There are a few other factors at play like the simply law of supply and demand along with the sketchy fate of international markets impacting events inside the loop.

However, what's clear is that putting Downtown interests above the rest of Kansas City is now a losing strategy that won't garner a lot of support for the next class of political hopefuls given the current political climate.

And all of this inspires tonight's playlist comprised of songs about Downtown, etc. . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. The airport was a way out of this mess. Not so quick I guess. Or at least not locally.

That's the next challenge. To build momentum for something that, even airport supporters claim, most people don't use.

  2. Don't worry. All that Trump infrastructure money is going to give downtown KC all the juice that it needs.

There will be no infrastructure money any time soon. Der Fuhrer is too busy with his homophobic, racist agenda to care about average Americans.

    You were conned.

Don't worry, he'll find lots of time for golf.

  7. Controlling crime IS infrastructure. Everything is based on living in safer society. Sly James, Jolie, Canady and Peters Baker have not delivered on a single attempt to control crime. James has fucked this city and left the other idiots out in the open and vulnerable.

  8. Tony Botello is right!!! Supporters of the Kansas City metro have attempted to build something and actually try to improve the city in way that motivates people to want to live in the city. How dare they!!! Tony Botello continues to live in his mom's basement and has no real job and has accomplished nothing other than lose a libel lawsuit. If he can't do anything meaningful then no one should either!!! Tony Botello seyz fuck Kansas City!!!!

  10. KC = Detroit

    How did we get there?

One project at a time and by way of crony capitalism.

  11. 11:58 is no doubt one of those masked protesters out on the streets today. Has no clue how a city works but thinks shiny toys is the answer. Look cum stain, people don't want to live in a place where you are taxed to death while all the city services you pay out the ass for are falling apart.

Byron why can't you just OD on some of that meth that is so readily available where you live. Then you would be doing society a favor.
