TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! THRILL IS GONE: KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR RIDERSHIP AUGUST DECLINE!!!

The Summer of 2017 hasn't been so sweet for the Kansas City toy train streetcar as ridership begins it's cold weather plummet just a bit early.

To wit . . .

FOR THE FIRST TIME KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR SUFFERED A DECLINE IN RIDERSHIP THIS YEAR OVER LAST!!!

The news is well-hidden but thankfully AWESOME TKC TIPSTERS have shown us the way . . .

Take a look at ridership for the last full month of Summer at 199,516:

Delve deeper into their website and readers can find August stats from last year:

The important year to date juxtaposition:

Total Ridership for August 2016 - 204,251

And so . . .

EVER SO SLIGHTLY . . . KANSAS CITY IS GETTING BORED WITH THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR!!!

To be fair, the 2.32% YTD drop isn't a cause for panic but it is part of a significant plunge in cold weather ridership that we noticed last year and the data offers a bit of insight into why streetcar proponents are so desperate to destroy local Democracy in order to garner an extension and more riders.

Developing . . .

I think the rain had a lot to do with it. The streetcar isn't a good transit option for tourists in a bad weather.

There needs to be an official audit of the numbers. The counting methodology is very "generous" to say the least.

face it, the bus is cheaper and more efficient.

Why can't we invest in more electric buses if we really want to help the environment?

Ha ha, two percent! That's a real show stopper.

If you're some sort of fucking streetcar-obsessed nitwit.

Two percent is probably a big deal for a project that cost more than 100 million. Does anybody still ride that thing? Their stats seem way overblown.

Each rider is counted twice if they are in the car at each end. They are required to exit and re-board. False ridership numbers to say the least

Audit the crap out of that toy train. It's time the taxpayers had some honest numbers.

I ride it when I go downtown. If that pisses you off, you know who I am and who I work for.

THE THRILL IS GONE. .

The very fact that a 2-mile amusement park ride was a "thrill" shows what a hayseed cow town KCMO really is.
If this is a big deal, just imagine what a weekend afternoon at Worlds of Fun would be!
Bit-time sophisticated diverse dense urban downtown KCMO!
Mooooo!!!
Bring back Mike Murphy's cattle drive. It fits the KC vibe much better.

Heard somebody is starting a petition to rename it to the LYIN' SLY Toy Choo-Choo to NO-WHERE !!!

The Big Multi-Million Lyin' Sly Toy Choo' Choo' that goes a whopping 2 blocks then breaks down and has to be towed !!!!

Oooopps, forgot nobody is actually qualified to do maintenance or work on the TOY Choo' Choo' which was recently exposed !

Crazy Clown said...

^^^ That is WISDOM from Retro.

Good point about the maintenance. Do we have to fly the mechanics in from Spain?

What a waste!

I've ridden the toy train in hot and cold weather. Neither time was any fun. Every time the doors opened, a blast of warm or cold air swept through the cars. And if you're unlucky enough to be standing on the train, you really have to be good at balancing yourself and avoid crashing into your fellow passengers.

Add to all this fun is the fact that the train doesn't go anywhere people NEED to go.

Grandpa,,, bought a rubber.......

In the afternoon there are a fair number of riders, first half of the day very few. Three times this week less than two people riding. This is not opinion, this was actual. Tourists and grandparents with kids and moms on play dates are done for the season. Don't let this take away from better options.

Haven't ridden it and I won't. Don't have a need to hop on a rackety, raggedy piece of crap that was crammed down our throats. It ruined Main Street and has jacked up the City Market area. If you think this is bad wait until the airport situation takes shape. A previous poster was exactly right - this thing goes NOwhere anyone needs/wants to go. If you want a "thrill ride" try Worlds of Fun, Silver Dollar City, or Disney 'cause this ain't it, folks.

There's NO POSSIBLE WAY that many people have ridden that useless broken piece of junk in a 30 day period.

WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY can't this be audited, NOW!!!!!!!???

Only CROOKS, LIARS, THIEVES, and GRIFTERS will try and prevent an audit.

Since they count all the same people twice, once when you ride the train a few blocks to a Bar and once when you get back to your car, (Oh, Crap! Another DUI Ticket!) shouldn't all these numbers be reduced by 50%?

Ridership of a free amusement is not substantial evidence of a successful transit strategy. The Main Street corridor will be lipstick on a pig if they skunk in the extension. The legacy of the special interest fix.
