Kansas City Vietnam Documentary Debut

An emotional look back at an old-school war which defined a generation . . . Nearly as productive as consideration of the two wars which still involved U.S. military personnel that have been dragging on without an end in sight.

"Go behind the scenes with KCPT during Ken Burns and Lynn Novick's visit to Kansas City on September 8, 2017. The filmmakers shared clips from "The Vietnam War" at a special student event, followed by a presentation for 1500 people . . ."

Take a look:

I watch the Vietnam War every night on the evening news, I don't need, or want, to watch it again.

I was in the last lottery. I stayed up until two in the morning watching the birthdays being pulled from a drum, one by one. When they reached 300, & still hadn't called my birthday, Dad told me to go to bed & stop worrying, I was not going to be drafted. The next day, at school, that was all the boys could talk about. We learned that one of our class mates was the first day called. It was like a wake for someone who hadn't died, yet.

Later, the government decided not to use that lottery, so no one my age was drafted. We were one year too young.

Went over on a "C Team" in 63, spent most of my tour setting up Strategic Hamlets under the CIA's CIDG Program. Got to watch as
the LLDB and SoVN Air Force bombed the shit out of their own people (they considered the Rhade subhuman) and also watched as we lost a couple of US GIs that way.

South Vietnam deserved to lose that war! John Paul Vann, the finest soldier I ever served under, told Congress that "the South Vietnamese Army lacked the willpower to defeat the Viet Cong", and the US Army kicked him out for being honest! Then McNamara and Westmoreland tried to fight a European-style war against a mechanized Soviet-style enemy, and got their butts handed to them!

That about cover it? Think I need to watch lil' Kenny's version?

Kenny Bowlcut didn't serve in the Civil War, but he sure made a damned good documentary about it.
