Yael Gets The Last Word?!?!

A former Kansas City newpaper pundit earns glowing coverage from his friends at public radio. Take a look:

Yael Abouhalkah On Leaving Kansas City And Journalism For The Peace Corps

Last fall, after he was laid off from The Kansas City Star, Yael Abouhalkah did what many journalists do: he started a blog and continued to cover local and national politics. That is, until couple of weeks ago, when he announced that he and his wife are heading to Namibia to be Peace Corps volunteers.

Namibia is not far enough away. Send him to North Korea instead. He would feel at home there.

Yael wrote some pretty good and thoughtful stuff way back when.
But then he got lazy and mesmerized by Brownback and Kansas and just kept writing the same thing over and over again.
Maybe he'll run into Brownback somewhere in Africa when Sudden Sam takes on his new "religious ambassador" role.
And they can have a nice chat.
What irony!

maybe he'll come to appreciate kansas more with some real life experience.

Hope he doesn't try to inflict some journal blog on us.

think the Star had to can Yael in order to finally get rid of Lewie "White Privilege" Dikweed..

had to balance it out for the EEO scam protection

Hopefully Yael enjoys Africa so much that he decides to remain there, and can convince all KC hood rats to come join him.

Sounds like all that time at the Star provided him with the skills and experience to score a huge career advancement.

I can't wait to learn what supposed skills Yael will be teaching the Africans!

How to assert a sense of privilege and demand money?

Usually Peace Corps volunteers teach the village how to DIG a well. Whereas Yael only knows how to GO to the well, for financial support from the village elders and big bankers. Do they have development attorneys in Namibia? Maybe Yael can get Cordish to finance a seminar on that. With their $15 million a year of free rent in our Power and Light District...they can fly first class and buy fancy blue dashikis for that. Import some beer and BBQ as a welcome gift.

Coming soon to Namibia: Tax abatements! TDD districts containing just 427 huts! And yes, 7:27 nailed it. God has a sense of humor, because one day Sam Brownback will stroll into Yael's village and they can discuss religious tolerance.

Yael is a conundrum.

He's not unintelligent, but over the years I think he got burned out and became a purposeful bomb-thrower to keep people stirred up by design.

Sometimes when people get very complacent and stuck in a rut at work, they'll start acting out, testing their limits, and almost daring management to fire them. That's what happened with Yael. He can call it being laid off if he wants to, but the truth is he got fired. He did the same thing on Ruckus. Dug in his heels, refused to adapt, and thought others would cave to his demands, but got forced out instead.

Yael was never a very ambitious guy professionally, happy to make enough to get by and live a simple life. There's virtue in that, but I hope he was able to save and invest enough for retirement years ahead. He won't need much at all for the next 27 months in Namibia, if he makes it that long. If we have a market crash while he's gone, he may need to stay over there for retirement.

I salute anyone who volunteers for the Peace Corps, even Yael.

Thanks a lot for reminding me what a blessing it is to not read Lewis anymore.

"Sometimes when people get very complacent and stuck in a rut at work, they'll start acting out, testing their limits, and almost daring management to fire them. That's what happened with Yael."

People who actually work in KC journalism know this an informed statement.
