TKC MUST READ!!! KANSAS CITY RIVER MARKET DENIZENS RAGE AGAINST TOY TRAIN BROKEN PROMISES AMID STREETCAR EXPANSION RIGGED VOTE!!!

The announcement of a recent rigged vote victory offered hope to toy train supporters despite the lack of new federal funds and competing voter initiatives . . . But, as always, our blog community is concerned with the word of street level locals who offer a glimpse at the reality of the situation beyond consultant and political hype.

To wit . . .

CHECK THIS REALITY CHECK RAGING AGAINST BROKEN STREETCAR PROMISES IN THE RIVER MARKET!!!

Here's the word . . .

"There are 30,000 people living in the proposed streetcar district and only 3,642 were able to get through all the obstacles to voting. Guess if more people had fax machines and readily available access to a notary the turnout would have been higher!

"The damage is already done in River Market from the starter line. This area is a park & ride lot and Main Street is no longer easily available for auto traffic. Residents are paying high property and sales taxes to support the only free trolley ride in the US. We were promised that the streetcar would attract businesses and jobs to the area and the result was zero. Trolley supporters claim it has brought thousands of tax subsidized apartment units to the area. These apartment dwellers require City services and are not paying for them.

"The streetcar line is a novelty for tourists rather than a transit system that can benefit the taxpayers. Instead of wasting more taxpayer dollars on obsolete fixed rail technology, KCMO should be investing new technologies including demand response platforms such as Uber! Many major US cities plan to roll out mobile on demand services in the next 5 years and KCMO keeps pushing old technology."

You decide . . .

Toot toot. Hoot. Losing a lane on Main will be a pain. Clunk.

So if the streetcar didn't really deliver, why are we going to do basically the same thing with the new airport? Only at a cost of billions of dollars more.

sLIE is just securing his great grandkids financial futures by being bought out by major corporations

How does "boo freakin' hoo" grab you?

Don't like it? Move.

The streetcar delivered. But the bratty baby whiners persist, is all.

We could have them killed.

Promises were also made about property values of buildings in streetcar TDD going up in value. Just the opposite has happened, especially in the River Market. No one wants to buy property there because of the horrendous traffic jams and lack of parking. If there is ever an emergency, fire trucks and police cars cannot even go anywhere due to the daily gridlock. When a building does go up for sale it sits on the market for over a year and ends up being sold for far less than it was worth before the streetcar was put in.

Trolley has done nothing to revitalize downtown. The tourist ride by empty storefronts after empty storefronts.

Probably would be a good decade for folks to learn a little about voting.

If the streetcar extension to UMKC does get approved, just wait until all the Brookside people living in Crestwood and near 51st and Brookside realize their toney little blocks of half-million dollar houses will now become a parking lot for park and ride commuters, just like City Market. And it will bring new crime to their neighborhood from people who have nothing better to do than ride a free trolley at night and look for trouble.
