SHOCK!!! KDOT FORCES KANSAS CITY FIREFIGHTERS TO PAY TOLL ON THE WAY TO HELP HARVEY FLOOD VICTIMS!!!

Disaster postscript and a glimpse at KCMO 1st responders getting no love from Sunflower State authorities whilst on their way to help an important relief effort.

You decide . . .

  1. KDOT tollroads are privatized. They're making a cut on every toll taken and give the "remainder" to the State. You're not going to get any love from those a-holes. Remember too that's exactly what ol' MoDOT wants to do with their pay-to-play toll privatization scheme. Let a private entity (who donates mass amounts to lawmakers) take over maintenance and charge a toll. The State "sets" the toll amount, the Company gets a lions share for "operating" the toll road, the State gets a "payback" fee for letting the private co run the toll road and the users/taxpayers get screwed. Rather than basic reform in MoDOT. There is absolutely no reason in the world that the tax share that bureaucratic behemoth can't pay for upkeep on State Highways and byways.

You wanna kill two birds with one stone? Make a law that Cities with State jurisdiction running through them have to give 90% of ticket revenue from those State roads to the MoDOT maintenance budget line item. Heck, you could designate it further by paying that percentage to the MoDOT district where the muni is located. After all, aren't we constantly told that its only for safety? This way you get better MoDOT roads AND safer drivers amiright?!?!

I can see the good and bad in that law it would need to be regulated as usual.

I will say that truck drivers are the ones that really tear up the highways I hope they make the semi's pay a lot more then regular folks driving their SUV's and compact cars.

  4. The comments here just go to show how pissed off people are at this MoDOT guy who comments on here and gives his input on "improvements" to problems. He's probably on his way to Coon-lumbia for the MU football game Saturday on the taxpayer dime. This needs to be reported to the Missouri Attorney General and criminal charges filed.

  5. Here's the thing, a couple of things could have happened, the toll attendant should have called a supervisor who I have no doubt would have waived the toll.

Or someone from the fire dept should have picked up the phone and called the KDOT or the governors office and asked for help prior to their leaving.

I've dealt with both Kansas and Oklahoma transportation depts and they are always willing to help in these situations. Just disappointing that the fireman decided to post it to social media instead of handling it when they got back or before they headed back. Everyone wants to post crap to shame people.....gets really old!!!

  8. If I drive a toll road I have to pay the toll, If you are a firefighter going to save Hurricain victims that should have evacuated because unlike a tornado you have days of warning, I am sorry but I dont feel sorry for stupid people who live in flood plains and huricain paths when they have plenty of warning to evacuate. If you stay, you deserve what you get!! Who I do feel sorry for is people who call 911 in KCMO and get put on hold for 10 minuets, so fuck the FF's and them having to pay tolls to obtain hero status in Houston!!! A real life threatening issue in this city which has been addressed bymany is 911 hold times and deplorable emergency response times and nothing has been done to improve it, save your own people here first, if you do then more can be alive to help in situations such as Harvey. Shame on the Houston mayor for telling people to stay put and NOT evacuate, the deaths in Huston are on his hands I hope he doesnt sleep at night!! reminds me of our local govenment here, they do nothing until lives are lost and when they are.....they still do nothing!!!

  9. They used to give a class 9 ticket at the toll booth for LE and ambulance folks. Did the fire department check it out or did they figure the tax payers would pick it up as a travel expense?
