Mayor Sly Earns KC Toy Train Streetcar Prize

Quick clip that starts out the week with just a bit of irony . . .

Some fun facts to remember for those who witness the clip . . .

- Mayor Sly celebrates transit access for a line that only moves a measly 2.nothing miles.

- The "Rosa Parks" Prize is earned by way of a transit line established through voter suppression.

- This award come in the same month that voters rejected an addition to the streetcar line without CITYWIDE voter approval.

  1. I liked what trans sec was trying to do, but doing it with Sly and the fix and giving him an award. Giving awards to slop fixes while being tone deaf to better priorities and skilled approaches of integrity rings hollow

  2. Some of these awards have all the gravitas of judgement of fake it til you make it

  3. There obviously is some fun to the Streetcar but it is so weakly supported for high cost extensions it is a form of fraud, autonomous shared shuttles will run that route at least 3-4 years before that segment would be operational

  4. Imagine Main all torn up for three years

  5. Imagine combining tourist sled crowd with Metro mid town crowd, what happens then in the kumbiyah fantasy?

  6. And we all thought that only the Chamber swells gave each other and themselves awards for, well being swell.
The incestuousness of the entire downtown operation never ceases to amaze.
Sly and the gang blow hundreds of millions of taxpayer money on fluff and toys and the folks who got the money give them awards.
Those are mighty expensive participation trophies!

  7. And he was the only black they could find to give the award too............ #sad

  8. My favorite part starts at the 3:50 mark.

James states that KC is very segregated and "we" need to do something to address that issue.

I suppose that's why he's severely neglected the East-side while pouring millions of dollars of support into the areas west of Troost.

How many derelict abandoned buildings does the city own on the East-side?

Why did KCMO finance the headquarters expansion for Burns and McDonnell after they generously donated to Mayor James re-election campaign, while exempting them from the full earnings tax, even though the vast majority of their employees don't reside in KCMO?

How come the city still doesn't crack down on absentee slumlords?

How come East-side residents can't depend on receiving basic city services like police protection, trash pick-up, and codes enforcement?

Agent Zero, why don't you put all of your comments together in one post?

  11. I want to just say a point or two but then remember there is a great number of good reasons to challenge the validly presented case for extensions, that papers over huge conversation, usually without real public support but with a chamber/city hall/mayor bullhorn fix and it reminds me that needs to be broken down, repeated for effect, and call them on bs loudly. Otherwise it is just business as usual while Sly glides.

  12. Should have said validly presented case, did you see the Tom Gerand interview. Project needs 50 percent fed funding, streets torn up for years, Main traffic a mess for years, autonomous a much lower cost and more responsive option, then total wildcard of combining streetcar crowd with metro crowd . Then there is the breakthrough tech of our time. Much more flexible and supported by the biggest tech firms on the planet. But we wouldn't want something advancing that incredibly would we. I would love to cross x fixers in integrity forum. The streetcar extensions are already obsolete if you really understand, and then on flexibility and resiliency it is no contest. There should be a burden to say how and why extensions are better than autonomous shuttle pools. Remember these clowns did not even try to understand the alternatives. That is the fix.

  13. Keep trying to say vapidly and spell check changes it
