TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY CORPORATE WELFARE DOWNTOWN BUILDING BOOM COMING UP!!!

There was a recent conference of Kansas City d-bags touting big buildings with a hefty bit of subsidy from City Hall . . . I.E. Taxpayers.

To wit . . .

THANKS TO OUR BLOG COMMUNITY WE'VE INTERCEPTED EXCLUSIVE PIX OF UPCOMING DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY PROJECTS THAT ALL REQUIRE HEFTY BITS OF CITY HALL SUBSIDY WHILE NEIGHBORHOODS OUTSIDE THE LOOP ENDURE RISING CRIME!!!

Enjoy the pix, a look at where that GO BOND money is going, a reminder of irrational exuberance, speculation and a few fanciful schemes FIRST on TKC . . .

Condo village next to hobos down by the river . . .

Another toy train station . . .

Twisty Dowtown space despite lack of job growth . . .

Main office tower for more eco-devo lawyers . . .

Possibly a better plan than hobo napping village . . .

High way scheme that's still not as profitable as Denny's . . .

Mandatory East Village attractions as a bridge to 18th & Vine . . .

And so, Kansas City residents have every right to be skeptical of these plans given that TAXPAYERS are providing a great deal of the financing.

    1. I think it's best not to panic here or try to start a class war.

We need to think about job creation and all the good things we can do for Kansas City by investing in our community. We have the opportunity to create build a great city with bond money, subsidies and helping business grow so that they can help create good paying work for all people not just in downtown but all over KC.

We have to start somewhere and now that we have the momentum, it's time to get started. It's time to GO for KC!

  4. A neighborhood where one can live, commercial areas where one can work and schools where kids can learn are more important than downtown to everyone excepts those making money off the taxpayer.

  7. Some of these (like the twisty tower) are nothing more than spec designs for hypothetical projects that have been sitting on developer web sites for years

  10. Forget the pie-in-the-sky planning. You want a great city, you need great roads, neighborhoods free from crime and flooding, and great schools. Get back to basics you assholes!

  11. 11:12am offers some great adult supervision, but their suggestions take learning about what a city government actually is responsible for, getting out and about enough to know what's happening in municipal departments, asking tough questions and providing supervision and oversight, and holding people accountable.
    In other words, in KCMO,
    NOT A CHANCE.
Let's get that bond money flowing!

  12. Always have money for downtown but very little for the neighborhoods. Let's face the downtown council tells City Hall how to spend the money , while the neighborhoods decay around us .

  13. If these projects are worth doing--and I hope they are--big private money will come in and make them happen.

If they have to be propped up with subsidies, they're very likely not yet worth doing.

  14. The last BIG BIG building splurge downtown resulted in lots of mostly empty office buildings, some of which are now being "converted" into apartments by people trying to take advantage of the latest round of wild subsidizing for developers who simply have to say the words "millenial creative class" or better yet, "streetcar".
And all of this floats on a sea of largely public debt with only the hope that any of it will become economically sustainable.
The comments about basic city responsibilities, the importance of private investment, and PR hype are right on the money.

  15. You nailed it, hype and irresponsibility and hollow posturing does not equal good governance
