THE TKC SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! SUMMER OF SECRETS FOR KANSAS CITY!!!

Quick contemplation this evening of the Kansas City discourse and the lack of transparency in local government that seems to dominate every facet of local life.

Kansas City has always thrived on secrecy from the top down and throughout the entire history of this dirty, little, town - This Summer, even moreso . . .

Consider:

The airport NO-Bid deal is earning apt criticism from the Council for a process that is inherently flawed and offers little details for voters beyond a cynical corporate marketing campaign.

The streetcar extension ballot has been tarnished by allegations of voter suppression and mail-in ballots that have been denied to many locals amid a secretive process away from public polling places.

The Downtown Hotel term sheet is still missing and nobody really knows where the private investment is coming from whilst City Hall puts up $35-MILLION and then MILLIONS MORE in tax breaks for the project that has actively evaded any input from voters.

And so, this secrecy of the corporate class when it comes to BILLION DOLLAR decisions puts complaints of urban more "no-snitching" amid deadly crime in perspective as the code of silence has always ruled the lives of every Kansas City resident.

Accordingly, our playlist tonight is dedicated to secrets and Summer . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday Night . . .

  2. So another streetcar is a bad thing for KC?

Not likely, we need to support public transit

  3. 3.1 billion dollar decision and George Brett is the spokesman. Sorry, but that doesn't that inspire much confidence. It feels like this airport has been rushed and I still haven't seen a definite plan for a new airport. Why not? I believe our Mayor when he says that the airport is how the world sees Kansas City but voters should be allowed to see the plan before voting. So far nothing. That is not acceptable.

  4. Airports are not how people see cities. They see skylines and neighborhoods. Airports are utilities. Make them convenient and inexpensive.

If you think the world sees KC as it's airport you are clueless or work for the Chamber of Commerce or Burns & Mac ( the same thing).

  5. The code is alive and well Tony true that. I personally know of three homicides from 1970s into the early 80s that are unsolved and I have the answers but I won't talk for various reasons I won't talk mostly for the health of my family. Yes real talk the code is real

  6. The proposed airport is approximately the same thing that was offered five years ago ... it's essentially the same deal but the funding has been tossed around, confusing people. I want to believe / support a new airport but I want to see the logistics of that new airport clearly spelled out ... all we seem to be getting is the same bad plan repackaged over and over again.

  7. The only plan they have is to screwthe voters out of millions of dollars. Just like always. I feel real sad for the people who live in Jackson county. You will never ever get any tax breaks living there. Move OUT!

  8. if an independent financial expert has analyzed the unique financing and recommends it, can you please say that expert is?
