TKC EXCLUSIVE !!! KANSAS CITY WESTSIDE SMALL BIZ & NEIGHBORS FEAR THEY'VE BEEN 'ABANDONED' BY MAYOR SLY AND CITY HALL AFTER MASSIVE FIRE!!!

The aftermath of a massive 3-alarm fire has dominated the news cycle most of yesterday, into the night and this morning but Kansas City's elected leaders have been silent on the topic so far.

The damage is substantial as surrounding structures caught fire, streets have been closed down and nearby small biz has been temporarily shut down.

Sadly, there hasn't been a peep from elected officials or City Hall regarding this impending neighborhood economic disaster.

Mayor Sly James boasts of 100K Twitter followers but AS OF THIS WRITING he hasn't even offered a single tweet or public sign of support for 1st Responders fighting the blaze in the heat and all night OR reassurance to neighbors and small biz.

4th District Council Lady Jolie Justus is known for her compassion but she has neglected visiting this neighborhood in her district or even making contact with small biz and the community for most of this year. Again, as of this writing, not a single tweet or social media message from her on this KCMO disaster that has been all over the news.

4th District At-Large Council Lady Katy Shields is a longtime denizen of the local political scene and but she's not facing any competition and her social media profile is low. Still, this was an opportunity to continue her commitment to the core of her district and she has been absent from the discussion and couldn't be bothered to tweet a single line of support as of this writing.

And so, because this blaze is in TKC's neighborhood . . . We talked to just a few people about the response they've received from City Hall . . . We'll feature the best quote but everybody we've talked with reveals that while they were impressed with the reaction of police & fire in keeping the community safe . . . Support from City Hall, the Mayor & Council has been noticeably absent.

Here's the word from one small biz owner across the street from the fire:

"Nothing. I was wondering if the Mayor would at least show the fire fighters some love but not a mention at all. It's like the Westside doesn't exist for City Hall. This is diverse community, they know that all the growth in KCMO is really coming from here with new businesses, new living spaces and more residents but it's obvious that we don't rank very high on their list of priorities when our council representatives or our Mayor can't be bothered to even mention the biggest fire KC has seen so far this year."

More to the point . . .

100 FIRE FIGHTERS WORKED AGAINST THIS BLAZE, SMALL BIZ WAS SHUT DOWN AND STREETS CLOSED BUT MAYOR SLY AND CITY COUNCIL REPS FAIL TO SHOW ONE BIT OF MEDIA CONCERN!!!

And so, the blaze continues to smolder and KC's first responders work diligently to keep the neighborhood safe. Meanwhile, Kansas City elected officials have seemingly forgotten about this part of their community in the midst of an economic crisis following a massive blaze. These same locals offer social media love and so much support for their pet projects and even tragic events overseas but it seems a working-class part of KCMO that has inspired some real-world grassroots growth doesn't rate a mention for these so-called leaders.

You decide . . .

    2. Sly only cares about Sly. You should know that by now. If it's not going to grab him big headlines or some political capital, he can't even be bothered to lift his phone to his face. Not even on the toilet.

  3. At least he didn't lie and pretend to be concerned. His silence perfectly states his apathy for the residents of Kansas City

  4. Sly is a big fat lying stealing turd

  5. He hates everybody now, he's mad everybody didn't bend over backwards and let him f us in the azz over the airport. He's been pouting like the little bitch he is for over a month now he still can't believe we questioned him (cost him his payback from burned and mcdoonboggle)

  6. He truly does believe he is the smartest person in the world (ego) and with the dumb insignificant little people of kc questioning him he will show us how dumb and insignificant we are by holding back all city services i.e. Any maintenance of the city and even the police dept to prove he is the almighty and bestus mayor this city has ever and will ever have. So mayor get over your pouty self and do your effing job or get the hell outta the way

  7. I think this business should get their insurance money and open a new place on the Kansas side, or in the suburbs, they would probably be appreciated more, safer too.

  8. OMG now we are offended that there was no support "tweet"? God you people are the biggest bunch of pussy snowflakes I have ever seen. You people who commented here have taken Tony's troll hook, line, and sinker again. You people rail at millennials being snowflakes, but everyone who commented here is much, much worse. "There was no support tweet...he doesn't care...oh no"! Grow the fuck up.

  9. Ponak's, which is ACROSS THE FUCKING STREET, says on their Facebook page they'll be open at 11 a.m. today.

So are you lying or just making shit up again? Who am I supposed to believe? Tony Botello or MY LYING EYES?

    ReplyDelete
  10. nearby small biz won't be able to reopen for a week.

Think I'll go to Ponak's this morning and giggle at Tony's lies.

The mayor is supposed to rush around town all day comforting fire victims, people without power, people who slip on the sidewalk, get bitten by mosquitoes, step in dog poop at the park, widows, orphans, and of course, lying bloggers.

He'll be right over Tony. Don't worry buddy.

Lol right and about six people even bother to look at his twitter feed on a regular basis.

  13. Still no tweet from Sly, dude really doesn't care about anoybody but his donors.

  14. So funny to see Sly's people panic about this, they really do have such thin skin for such fat people.

  15. Give it a rest. You people have put up since before Pendergast with government by grifters, gangsters and self-enriching wankers. Some building catching on fire is no reason to change course now.

  16. I generally like the mayor even if I disagree with him about the airport. But the fact that he didn't even tweet about this show that his mind ain't on KC. This was a really big fire.

  17. Screw all this cry baby crap. Just tell me when the fire sale starts so I can get a deal on a recliner.

    Exactly what I was thinking!
When the Plaza JJ's was on fire, James was all over the news, wearing his KCFD cap and shirt. Was it because JJ's was where attorneys like to hang out and drink? Because it was on the Plaza?

Also, please note that the attorney pushing Burns and McDonnell's sweetheart single-terminal deal is the brother of JJ's owner. KCMO good old boy's network = all in the family

  20. Those were Sly James Sing and Dance days, like Titus on Netflix original Kimmel Schmidt.

  21. ^^My God 9:40Am! Are you privy to his schedule? How do you know he wasn't in contact with the chief on scene? Let's see..there was a person killed at JJ's...several people hurt...additional surrounding buildings damaged and aflame...the fire was in a densely packed area...explosion caused by a gas leak posed a real danger to people and surroundings. Let's compare that to yesterday's fire shall we?. No one in the building...fire contained to the structure...no danger to firefighters as they were in defensive mode and had formed a collapse zone around the structure....yea I think both were quite different but that's just me, I'm a smart person with no political ax to grind and I'm not a pussy snowflake like you looking to find offense where none exists. Grow up. Your a bunch of whiny bitches.

  26. Great to hear Ponak's is open for business; it's literally across SW Blvd. from the warehouse that burned. How about El Patron? It shares a parking lot with the now burned-out structure.

  29. 8:01 it's not just that he hasn't said anything about the fire, he hasn't said anything about the out of control murders and crime wave that has hit this city. The only thing he talks about is the sLIE James International airport and toy train. His silence on all the things important to us does speak volumes about his character and besides it was way too hot for his big ass to be out yesterday!

It's not that anyone expects James to "do something"; they just want him to acknowledge their existence. But, since you have term limits, once an official is re-elected, they can ignore you for four years; they don't have to pretend to care, like they would if there was a possibility of re-election.

You think you're "draining the swamp" with term limits, but really you're deny democracy, & providing job candidates to the lobbying industry.
