TKC EXCLUSIVE FACT CHECK!!! KCPD DEPLOYS MORE SECRET SPY CAMERAS THAT FAIL TO KEEP KANSAS CITY SAFE!!!

In an essentially meaningless tax debate and in between siring a bastard son who sided with the British, Benjamin Franklin once wrote: "Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

And this leads us to this common refrain in the midst of another KCMO homicide spike . . .

Fox4: Police say cameras installed in at-risk Kansas City neighborhood already paying dividends

Money line:

"The cameras on Independence Avenue are not the end. He says city leaders are planning to install more cameras in other parts of the city, but for now, those locations are a secret."

Here's the only problem with that . . .

KANSAS CITY SPY CAMERAS DON'T HELP TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE AND ONLY FUNCTION TO DOCUMENT INCREASING LOCAL VIOLENCE!!!

Example . . . The bus has great footage of a litany of scary encounters and it often serves to help find criminals . . . After the fact.

For locals on the ground level, more Kansas City spy cameras simply increase the odds that hottie news ladies will pretend to look concerned whilst introducing footage of your unfortunate demise.

And so this new Kansas City tech FAILS as a deterrent in much the same way that the old school "shot spotter" neighborhood listening devises have yet to stifle the typical sounds of gunfire overnight.

Wlos: Cameras aren't a silver bullet to piercing the crime rate.

It gets worse . . .

As we approach Summer it's clear that increased crime is beginning to capture the attention of locals while the City Hall development agenda touting the new airport, the downtown hotel and the streetcar extension still dominates the vantage point of most elected officials and their consultants.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. More Taxpayer money down the tubes.
KCPD lacks the initiative to fight crime.

  2. What happened to body cameras?? That seems like a more effective use of funds.

  3. Most folks aren't thinking about cameras when they commit crimes, but being able to identify the suspects and bring charges can offer closure the the victims and take criminals off the streets, and having a higher "solved crime" rate helps the police do their jobs.

I would also argue that having visible cameras can (but doesn't always) deter home break ins. It can take 2-5 minutes from the time the alarm is tripped to the time the police are called. Even if they make it a priority, it can take ten minutes for them to arrive on scene. Even a dopey criminal can get in and out with a lot of stuff in under ten minutes.

Is that the only thing they can do is shaking down the travelers going 10 MPH over the speed limit...Iv said it before..There is no money in fighting the bad criminals..just go after the tax payers driving to work!

  11. Taken in context, Franklin's quotation is actually defending the authority of a legislature to govern in the interests of collective security.

So sounds like Tony favors more, good deal.

  12. Waste of Money.

  13. ANYTHING, just ANYTHING besides addressing the real issue.
Many millions spent on programs, equipment, "activists", neighborhood groups, picnics, yard signs, fake nonprofits, yard clean-ups, and who knows what else.
But never so much as a whisper about personal responsibility, civil behavior, serious parenting, working hard in school, getting and holding a job, providing for your children, and all the other most basic aspects of living a successful and productive life.
    Excuses.
    Blame.
    And always more money.
And continually, the same sad results.

  14. Hey Tony, whatever happened to Toni Bones? Did she go to jail or something?

    ReplyDelete
  15. ^^^ Did you not find her under your rock?

As for KC Crime. There are no easy answers but the sad part is that nobody really cares enough to ask.

  16. 8:57 is correct. More cameras are fine. we need to keep an eye on left wing scum and blacks.

    ReplyDelete
  17. KC needs more police, not more cameras.

    ReplyDelete
  18. KC needs Police that have the initiative to fight crime.
Have to get off your ass to do that.

  19. Build a bigger Jackson County Jail that has drug rehab/mental health and job trade training as well. The inmates either cooperate and detox and job train or they stay inside.

  20. Yeah, those security cameras are a great idea. Grainy photos of the top of someone's head or some guy in a hoodie slouching around.

Oh, and you posters who are drinking the conspiracy Kool-Aid - nobody is interested in following your sad lives around. It's like the people who are convinced the Fed Gov is listening in our their conversations. What are you doing to bring such scrutiny on yourself?

  21. How about they cut PO Cruz's overtime!! 400 hours in 5 months is a little ridiculous!! How about you ask about that Tony?
