Show-Me Kangaroo Cash Alternative Push Back: UMKC Rejects Missouri Help For New Downtown Kansas City Arts Campus

An interesting move for the UM System as the city college seeks just a bit of breathing room from always stingy Jeff City. Checkit:

University Will Not Seek $48 Million From The State For Downtown Kansas City Arts Campus

  1. Arts is for quars anyway... alls we need is the Chiefs, BBQ and The Lake.

    Lake Life, son.

  2. I heard that Burns and Mac has lots of cash to burn.
Or maybe Burke can help out with the spillover from the hotel "investors".
That this is being pursued at the same time there are enrollment declines, staff reductions, and budget cuts throughout the MU system shows just how far off plumb these people are.
Looks like they might need some muscle at the administration building again.

  4. I'm sorry to see the arts money go away. No surprise that Gov. G has vetoed it. When you think about Missouri, most of the voters are rural and don't really see the value in education in general. You work on the farm after high school or you go down to the factory, if the town has one. Arts education is for city folk.

  5. 6:41 Blue collars, white collars, sole proprietors, LLCs, and a variety of artisans make up the "two jobs" farmer and their often "two jobs" spouses. Some of those presumed "hix in the stix" have the law, medical, teacher, engineer, HVAC, welder, mechanic, FD, PD, EMT, or whatever degrees or licenses.
Lots of farming (crops and stock) gets done by expensive, mighty machines operated by good rural kids, their parents, grandparents, friends, and neighbors between school, careers, and DEPLOYMENTS. Plenty of hardy 'country' kids who've worked for farmers or farmed their own family's lands, are reputed for quick studies and reliability in military service. Habits of early rising and physical stamina are readily transferred.

  6. Yeah right! Alternative match. This is where they get Cleaver to schmeckle a government grant in exchange for a shitload of black student scholarships.

  8. Greitens is right. $96 million to fund education for a bunch of queers is unnecessary

  9. UMKC already has their own arts department and dedicated buildings to the arts, plus one of the most well known Rep theaters in the country.

I was never given a good reason as to why they needed to split up the campus.

It seemed to run counter to UMKC's two decade long effort to make it a residential campus with a campus feel.
