Springtime Tradition: Kansas City Brookside 7-Eleven Robbed Again

I thought they closed this place . . . It's a virtual ATM for local crooks and long, long ago a very nice lady working the register was killed at this dangerous local spot. Here's more info:

Convenience stores are scumbag magnets. Any convenience store in any neighborhood. They are where lowlifes go. I haven't set foot in one for decades. My chances of coming face to face with dope addicts, gun-toting thugs, skeezy whores and robbers has gone down to virtually nothing since I did that. I am not a rocket scientist, know what I'm sayin?

Most of these convenience stores are just ATMs for the robbers. The poor chumps who have to risk their lives for minimum wage are lucky they haven't been executed for being there.

I started managing, was district manager and supervised construction of c-stores in '86 and did so until '02 in all areas of the city. Luckily none of my employees was ever robbed. My attitude changed in '02 and was covering the what was then a Q-Trip @ Bannister and 95th St. At about 2:00 in the morning I saw 2 KCPD police cars. One seemed to start up the hill towards The Mews, one pulled in across the street @ Bendix and an unmarked car with 2 officers pulled up in front of the store and 2 plainclothes officers came in and asked to see the manager. The lead detective took me back to my office and told me that a liquor store in Raytown and a Working Mans Friend station had also been robbed and their were 3 suspects. 3 blacks in late teens-early 20's driving a late '80's white Cadillac armed with a shotgun and handgun last seen going south on 435 and he was playing a hunch. About 20 mins the Caddy pulled up and parked in front of the store and thes cops were on that car like white on rice. When I got home my 11 year old son was eating breakfast and i told his mom about the incident. She said "I've watched you for 15 years and so far you've been goddamned lucky but every day your odds get slimmer and slimmer. Look at our son and think about that". I gave my 2 weeks notice at 9:00 that morning. Smart move.
