Remember that longtime school board member Darrell Curls was recently named the new board president. Now, less than six months later, check the Hickman Mills School District website and notice his curious absence.
Carol Graves now serves as President . . .
There are so many problems with public education in Hickman Mills that we're just going to have to do a quick summary . . .
- Residents are concerned that so many School Board members have been appointed rather than elected.
- Declining enrollment and lower capacity threaten the future of the district.
- Political pressure and special interest advocacy now dominate the focus of leadership and far outweigh concerns over student performance.
The list goes on but this trio of topics for Tuesday offer a peek and guide as our blog community leads the discussion in yet another embattled public education institution.

You failed to mention the involvement of John Sharp. John Sharp created most of the mess by first using the school board for his political agendas, first when he was on the school board and then creating a slate of candidates that he supported(controlled).

ReplyDeleteSharp is what's wrong with politics. Curls ran against him for city council in 2007, but then Sharp made him one of his bitches. Bonnaye Mims, another former board member, likewise was anti-Sharp, until she tasted the sweet Sharpy corruption. None of them are thinking about the kids. BoE is just a springboard to higher office for these stupid hacks.

ReplyDeleteRuskin/Hickman district has been a shithole for about, oh, 50 years now. And it's all John Sharp's fault? I get it, he looks like a character from a horror film, but I don't see how a turd becoming even smellier is his fault.
ReplyDeleteTake it from a former Hickman Mills SD student- That district was a shithole 25 years ago..it was the beginnings of a jungle atmosphere about 10 years in the making ,then. We all know what the real problem is with the district, so why can't we all just be honest,even black folks know.

Add to the list the huge waste of money used to create KCPS-like magnet schools, all new offices for the failing administrative "team", and many other pet projects. What a waste of tax payer money and all rubber stamped by school board - no matter who is or isn't on the board on any given day.
