TKC EXCLUSIVE!!! MIDTOWN KANSAS CITY FEARS MAIN STREET MAX CUTBACKS IN FAVOR OF STREETCAR EXTENSION!!!

Once again the bus takes a hit in favor of Kansas City's fixed rail obsession.

Behind the scenes, as the streetcar hours are extended over the weekend . . . Main Street and urban core bus service is cut back.

Proof:

RideKC: Late-Night Weekend Service Ending on Main Street MAX, Troost MAX

"The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority will stop offering late-night weekend MAX service on Main Street and Troost Avenue."

The juxtaposition is kinda scary and reminds us of the inequality of bus vs. streetcar transit i.e. the bus is for minorities and working poor whilst hipsters and the "creative class" are encouraged to ride the streetcar.

One KICK-ASS POLITICALLY INCORRECT KANSAS CITY INSIDER put it this way: "Of course they're going to scale back the Main Street Max . . . What sense does that make, having two mass transit vehicles riding right next to one another? I guess Black people could ride one and then the hipster whites could ride the other. But that's kind of obvious. Instead, they'll do what they've always done. Take away bus service slowly and hope that they can manufacture demand just like they're rigging this vote."

And so, before the election results are final . . . We're seeing contradiction in action. Kansas City is cutting back bus service on Main Street while touting the benefits of the toy train streetcar that goes the EXACT SAME DIRECTION . . . Only slower.

Developing . . .

Better question than TKC: Where is the demand for the streetcar if there's no demand for the bus?

Maybe nobody uses it.

But why let facts get in the way of racist streetcar bashing, right?

Also, "bankruptery."

And "destrect."

We warned that streetcar would lead to bus cutbacks. Streetcar proponents claimed it would increase bus ridership and expand bus service. Then they consolidated bus routes and reduced frequency. Granted, I can ride the bus three.blocks from my house directly to boulevard brewery without a transfer in 30 minutes, but this is yet another example of the city and streetcar proponents telling us one thing while SMARTKC warned of another thing and SMARTKC was proven right.

It's all weekend riders and tourists on the streetcar downtown, not a real option for people who have somewhere to go.

Suckers on the eastside that is what you get for voting yes on the GO 1-2-3 bonds.

I am not sure there is going to be a problem. There are a lot of homeless riding the streetcar now and the folks from the suburbs are still bringing their families down for free trolley rides on the weekend.

For God's sake let's not bash the streetcar. It's the vigorous, pumping engine that keeps 24 million tourists coming through every year just to ride it!

Wait, no. Sorry, I was mistaken. It's a bullshit boutique attraction that City Hall can't afford to be honest about. And the claim of 24 million tourists is pretty funny.
