TKC EASTER SUNDAY QUESTION: IS MAYOR SLY JAMES THE SAVIOR OF KANSAS CITY?!?
As the next election cycle moves closer, we reflect on the accomplishments of the current leader of Kansas City who has earned nearly universal praise from newsies, consultants and a great many people whose income depends on City Hall handouts.
Accordingly . . .
TKC MUST ASK: HAS MAYOR SLY JAMES SAVED KANSAS CITY?!?!
A few facts to consider before a rush to judgement . . .
- Kansas City is more dangerous now than at the start of Mayor Sly's tenure and the last two years have seen this town lead the nation in violent crime.
- Most people give Mayor Sly James credit for the streetcar but that was really Council Dude Russ Johnson's idea. Still, the toy train ballot effort pushed forward by Mayor Sly & Co. has been called "The most corrupt election since the Pendergast era" by fierce critics.
- The cost of living has skyrocketed during the tenure of Mayor Sly James. This might be a win for the developer class but higher rents, taxes and WATER BILLS have hit the middle and working class hard over the tenure of the current administration.
Nevertheless . . .
There is no arguing with a recent election victory AND his supporters still claim the mayor hold an approval rate of nearly 60% despite the fact that his last contest was against some homeless dude . . .
And so . . . On this Sunday celebration of "the King of Kings" we take just a brief moment to consider the legacy of a man who many claim is the King of Kansas City.
You decide . . .
