KANSAS CITY HATES SATURDAY GRIDLOCK 'ROCK THE PARKWAY' HALF MARATHON!!!

File this one under the middle-class making life horrible for their friends and neighbors.

Today's local complaint . . .

Rock the Parkway

Description . . .

"Rock the Parkway has become one of the largest and most popular half marathons in the Midwest! Hosted by Burns & McDonnell since its beginning in 2010, the Rock the Parkway half marathon and the 5K have sold out every year."

Accordingly . . .

SADLY, IT'S NOT ENOUGH THAT BURNS & MAC IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST PARTS OF KANSAS CITY'S WATER SERVICES FAIL . . . TODAY THEY PROVED THEY RUN LOCAL STREETS, TOO!!!

What's fun here is that all of the Internets whining is coming from the horrible people who have to go from Joco to Brookside in order to buy overpriced garbage . . . Still, the frustration is palpable amid the local not so quiet lives of desperation.

Developing . . .

INSULT TO INJURY

Burns and McDonnell buy political influence by giving campaign contributions to Mayor James and other Council members. FACT

Burns and McDonnell buy positive media coverage by employing former KC Star staff, etc. FACT

Burns and McDonnell derive a steady and lucrative income stream by being a primary engineering consultant for KCMO public works. FACT

Burns and McDonnell, a wealthy private employee-owned entity, relies upon public welfare subsidies to have KCMO build them a new HQ expansion. FACT

Burns and McDonnell does not pay the full 1-percent earnings tax on employees in their new subsidized HQ building. FACT

Based upon the residential address of the hundreds of Burns and McDonnell executives and employees who donated to Mayor James uncontested reelection race, we can say that only approximately 15-percent of company employees reside within KCMO. FACT

Former Burns and McDonnell CEO Graves made it a habit to take a small portion of the millions of dollars in public welfare received by the company and sponsor events to give the illusion that Burns and McDonnell is a nice charitable partner in the community. Like robbing a bank, and on the way out the door you tip the doorman. FACT

The lesson here for all to see, is that crime pays.
Why pay your fair-share of taxes and compete on a level playing field? Bribe public officials to secure advantageous favors in the marketplace, kickback a little of your profits for positive public relations, and have nearly all your staff live in the suburbs surrounding KCMO.

KC needs another half marathon where young snowflakes can put on fancy running gear and jog a 2 hour half marathon.

You sound very angry and obviously have no idea the amount of work that goes into training for these not to mention the fact these 'stupid' races raise thousands of dollars for area organizations each year. I'm going to go out on a limb and say you are in the minority of residents that actually feel this way. There were lots of families in front of their homes cheering us on, happy to see thousands of Kansas Citians doing something POSITIVE. Let's stop the angry 'get off my lawn' talk and be happy. The sun is shining and your not having to worry about getting chemical gassed by your own government.. life is good.. this is the definition of a first world problem.

Tony's KC, the place for whiners and hill-rods with BMI over 40.

1:48 - How much training does it take to run a two hour marathon? The last half marathon I ran before I blew out my knee was in 1 hour 24 minutes. That was the first half of a marathon. The second half was 2 minutes slower. My point is most young people are way too lazy to actually run.

Not sure how i ended up here, but i know it started after googling for information about the young man who DIED during the race. Reading the hot pile of trash on this site makes me even more sad, thinking about some poor troll in his basement spewing hate (about a charity run???) against the backdrop of a man receiving CPR at the finish line and later losing his life. Yuck. I hope I never find myself on this garbage site again.

Hey jacknut, could you "jog" a 2 hour half? Didn't think so...

Kansas City hates RTP". I couldn't tell this morning. So much enthusiasm in the surrounding neighborhoods. There are always signs forewarning of the race route and the detours only last several hours. Jump in, you might enjoy it!

It's not the site, it's the grouches. I found myself on the feed after looking for information about the man as well. That outcome makes me so sad. My friend saw him receiving compressions. :(

6:08: But he gave his life for, um, er uh. Oh well, one down a bunch to go.

12:10 hit the nail on the head!!! Burns & Mac is completely corrupt!!

Kansas City is a gangster operation. Always has been. Except now it's a corporate gangster operation.

Oh, I know! Did you hear about how they recently raised $215,000 to help foster children? Or how they sponsor programs for area schools to get kids excited about STEM and not just sports? What about all of their employees volunteering their weekends at The Special Olympics or helping with Harvesters to pack meals and organize food banks? Man, those people at BMcD, where do they get off working to provide for their community, helping others and being positive?

Hey, so fun fact...we live in the suburbs for many reasons but guess what I can personally vouch that we pay the 1% KC Income tax. Crazy huh? We all pay 1% but very few of us receive any benefit from it.

The Democrats in DC call it financial rocket science

I ran Rock the Parkway yesterday in 1:47.19 and I gotta say: I noticed some PISSED off drivers. This was my second year running it and yeah, as a racer I felt bad for drivers, I noticed a few drivers basically trapped on streets. I've ran the KC marathon several times as well. I'm not sure what to do about traffic in the city other than modify existing race routes or start earlier? I feel that the races are intentionally held early on a Saturday because Early Sat and Sun mornings are the least busy traffic mornings in the city.

10:40 comment The criticism was aimed at BMc receiving corporate welfare, and you can't dispute that fact. BMc employees personally benefit from corporate welfare because the company is employee owned. You can try to rationalize away your complicit behavior, but the facts stand.

10:46 comment All BMc employees pay the 1-percent KC earnings tax? That's just a blatant LIE. You obviously don't know the extent of your company's corruption.
HQ expansion blight designation = SHAM
Massive tax breaks and subsidies for HQ construction project.
BMc, a wealthy company, didn't pay for their own HQ expansion. KC taxpayers actually financed your new HQ, then your company's management structured a lease through a intermediary.
Employees in the HQ expansion don't pay the KC 1-percent earnings tax.
Some 85-percent of BMc employees reside outside KCMO, yet the company shakes down KC for work projects, and corporate welfare subsidies.
Why did hundreds of BMc employees who live outside KCMO, contribute to Mayor James reelection campaign when he had no challenge? Because you were buying some more corporate welfare benefits!

I found myself on this site as well looking for the man who collapsed to see what happened.. regardless of corporation Bs I think it's important to remember that I feel most of the runners intentions are to compete, have a good time, and support eachother and give to a good cause.

Fuck that guy. Let him sit on his fucking couch, get fat, and continue crying. I hope the next race locks down his neighborhood.
