Kansas City Newsie Chatter This Week

Kansas City Mainstream media discussion that's still worth a look and more important than our previous take on this topic . . .

"Nick Haines, Stacey Cameron, Barbara Shelly, Mike Ferguson & Dave Helling discuss reports that Kansas officials are exploring plans for a new airport in Johnson County, the ongoing budget battle in Kansas, recent townhall meetings relating to immigration and infrastructure, comments from the parents of boy killed at Schlitterbahn, the fight to make KU Med a gun free zone & moving Rockfest to KCK."

  1. Shelly is remarkably clueless on this issue. Airlines have NOT offered to pay for the terminal. They've offered to keep paying rent. They're adding service in spite of threatening not to. Even Cameron has bought into the ruse that the airlines offered to cut a check for the terminal.

  2. Another problem with the airport renovation vs. replacement. No one remembers that a renovation idea was floated but soundly rejected by the KC Council. Can't we fix what's wrong with the terminals without reducing everything to rubble, first? I also agree with previous poster about the "promises" from the airlines to cough up the cash for a new terminal. No airline is going to pay more than rent and other fees. By the way, we weren't able to fill all 3 terminals when they opened in 1972. Many airlines either disappeared or were swallowed up by mergers. That will continue to happen in the future, and we'll be stuck with a mostly empty airport. Think about it.
