Some denizens of our blog community are calling it a decline of an empire as the Winstead's on Shawnee Mission Parkway at Antioch and I-35 shuts down and looks awfully sad as it stands empty by the side of an otherwise busy road.

The Shawnee locations was one of the worst, the other locations that are holding on have much better staff and make it more of an experience to dine there.

ReplyDeleteSome of these locations have been showing their age and I've wondered if they were going to survive (i.e. parking lot falling a part, everything looks worn inside, the facade of building needing routine repair). Usually these are signs of deferred maintenance due to low cash flow. The only exception that I've noticed was the location on 135th street (probably the newest). They have great milkshakes and I like the menu. Feels like they need a shot of new energy. Hoping they won't close more locations since this is a Kansas City business. I miss Waid's.
