The GOLD STANDARD of Kansas City discourse gathers a veteran groups of panelists and takes on more than a few important topics tonight and offers a glimpse at both the culture war and economic policy.
Check the description . . .
Mike Shanin interviews Mike McShane, Director of Education Policy for the Show Me Institute, about Betsy DeVos, the new Secretary of Education. Then Mary O'Halloran, Jon Stephens, Laura McConwell and Steve Mirakian discuss the future for Plaza carriage rides after a recent accident, the controversy over safety pins in the Shawnee Mission schools and ways to fix the budget crisis in Kansas.

I'm glad that somebody is addressing this issue of animal cruelty seriously. Most of the TV stations simply reported it as an oddity and then dismissed the debate.
ReplyDeleteWe need to work on saving these horses, getting them out of the cold and making Kansas City a much kinder place for animals.
Have you ever tried baniku? It's DELICIOUS. Get out of the midwest and live a little bit.

DeleteGross. Just waiting for the end of year episode when they give themselves a nice pat on the back.
ReplyDeleteHore carriages are here to stay. STOP being a bunch of bitches KC!

Mary seemed on her meds tonight. Liked McShane. Good show.
ReplyDeleteYikes! Laura McConwell was terrible (which was disappointing as there are fewer Republican panelists overall). She looked like a deer in the headlights who froze up a couple of times, seemed to lose her train of thought, her eyes were darting around while speaking, and she was not at all dynamic. I'd like to veto her addition to the rotation. It was painful to watch her on the panel. Not everyone is cut out to be on television.
ReplyDeleteMirakian got in a number of good jabs, Mary was her usual verbose self who needed to be reigned in by Shanin a couple of times, and Stephens was espousing his usual Up With People / Rainbow Land philosophy.
Overall, not bad. Some interesting and amusing moments sandwiched in between cringeworthy awkwardness.
This cocksucker McShane talks out of the side of his mouth.
ReplyDeleteA better episode than most, Shannin is one of the best journalists in Kansas City.
ReplyDeleteFINALLY!! Finally, someone was willing to call Mike Shanin the beast that he is!
ReplyDeleteFor the highlight of the program see 10:35 mark:
"...you are someone who obviously hates animals, you probably want to keep elephants in the circus, you have no concern whatsoever for people who kill mosquitoes and flies....you're a horrible person."
-------Steve Mirakian, protector and lover of all creatures
The playful banter between these two started right from the opening introductions. I'm suspecting some eggnogg was passed around before taping.
