The new processes related to the city manager would begin in May of 2019, and it would still require the final approval of City Council, but some members of the public disagreed with the idea of taking responsibility away from the PIAC process.

“It allows the city manager to have the sole discretion for directing 65% of their funds,” said South Kansas City Alliance President Stacey Johnson-Cosby. “I’d like to respectfully request that you keep the ordinance written as it is now.”

  1. Just another example of KCMO government working hard to take money from designated purposes, put it all in one big pot, and then spend it anyway they choose.
Why fix streets or hire cops when you can blow hundreds of millions on streetcars, tech kiosks, arts programs, and pretty much anything else that some out of town slick walks through the door with.
Buying expensive toys while the house's foundation crumbles.
Some adult supervision seems to be missing.

  2. The PIAC committee acts like an extension of city government anyway. PIAC never recommends what citizens want, they vote the way the politicians who appointed them want. However, I do not want any more tax payer funding being doled out by the city manager. If they're not placing more restrictions in place, then I'm definitely against any change to lift restictions.

  3. Desiring to change a law that you don't always follow anyway seems like a waste of time.
