Craig Glazer: Trump Lightens Up On 60 Minutes
Lets be honest there are millions of Americans who fear that our new president, Donald Trump, is a right wing monster. Protests continue all over America over his election win last Tuesday. Though Trump won 30 states by electoral numbers his popular vote was not as big as Hillary Clintons. This is the third time that a presidential candidate won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote and lost. Al Gore was the other most recent winner of popular vote but lost the white house due to the electoral vote that went to George W. Bush.
In his first real interview after the big win, Trump went on 60 Minutes Sunday night. He said he liked the Clintons and it appears he will not go after Hillary in any criminal matters, if they even exist. I think that's a good thing. We need to move on. He said he enjoyed his time with President Obama and respects him. Good again. Trump was asked about being pro life, he said he was, however Trump said he had no issue with it staying the way it is, and it can be a states issue. He is not interested in changing the law of its a woman's right to choose. As for immigration: He says he will deport only those who have criminal records here or in the their past. Again I don't think he plans on sending back millions of people. He does want to build that wall, but again, some may be fenced etc...
Overall Trump has backed off some of his hard issues. He seems to realize that jobs, lower taxes, fixing Obama Care and trade are top priorities along with crushing ISIS. Many are upset with his choice of Steve Bannon to be a chief presidential advisor. Bannon has been linked to anti semitic views on Jews and of course Muslims. However again, Donald Trump's daughter is married to a Jewish man and Trump admires Israel and wants to work closely with them in the middle east.
The Trump 'kids' were asked if they would be 'official' members of the new presidents staff. They all said NO, we will run our family business but we are behind our father in anything he does.
What's the bottom line. Donald Trump is the next president. He admits much of his harsh tone was to get people to want to make changes. Some will happen but the harsh tone is gone. Trump is a deal maker, and good at it, he will proceed to try and make everyone feel happy with changes. Of course that is an impossible task. He can surely try. Again we will all have to wait and see what he does. Its too early in the game to guess right now. His tone and attitude seem upbeat and much softer. We must hope for the best. Hey the guy did get to the white house, he knows something we don't. Right. I say give him a chance before everyone condemns him. Well at least those who dislike him. Lets see what he can do.
