FRIDAY FACT CHECK: CHICAGO CUBS WORLD SERIES WINNING OVERSHADOWS PALTRY KANSAS CITY ROYALS TV RATINGS!!!

Once again the minor achievements of the Kansas City Royals have been diminished by history.

While the local media is producing nothing but a string of hype dedicated to their corporate advertising masters . . . Here's a bit of news that offers more perspective on sports glory in flyover country.

To wit . . .

THE CHICAGO CUBS WORLD SERIES WIN SCORED EPIC TV RATINGS AND REVEALS THAT THE NATION REALLY DIDN'T CARE ABOUT KANSAS CITY'S PUNY COMEBACK!!!

Here's proof:

Deadline: Cubs' Historic World Series Victory Hits 15-Year Ratings High For Fox

Hollywood Reporter: World Series Climax Tops 40 Million Viewers, Biggest Game in 25 Years

CBS Sports: Cubs-Indians World Series ratings: Game 7 is the most-watched MLB game in 25 years

To be fair, they did find a way to resurrect Harry Caray from the dead and the 108 year dry spell was far more dramatic than any moneyball drama that Kansas City could manufacture.

However . . .

The reality is that the story of the Cubs gripped the nation . . . Bill Murray is far more interesting than Paul Rudd . . . KC historians remember that 1980s World Series victory for the Royals was also mostly dismissed by the rest of the nation and once again Kansas City glory has been eclipsed by a far more beloved American team.

You decide . . .

Comments

  1. Now THAT is a very bitter and horrible way to look at things.

I think the better story is that America loves teams coming back after a long period of dormancy!

But probably the Cubs just have way more fans than KC.

  2. Fun fact: Harry Caray hated the Kansas City Royals and the entire Kauffman organization. but that might have just been the booze talking.

  3. Cubs always had a bigger following. Just think if we got rid of half these bogus baseball teams like The KC Royals how awesome baseball games would be again!

  4. I predict Cubs and Royals 2017 World Series..

    Any takers?

  6. This proves that Tony, doesn't know anything about sports other then his beloved Dodgers and Raiders.

Are you kidding me? Of course the Cubs beat the Royals when it comes to ratings. A team with a 108 year championship draught that happens to have a top 5 MLB fan base and is in the third media market in the country. Then add the fact that the Cubs have a young, likeable team.

But this kind of stupidity shouldn't shock anyone here.

After all. Tony is also the same guy who refers to football players as "Footballers." WHO IN THE UNITED STATES CALLS FOOTBALL PLAYERS FOOTBALLERS????????? THIS ISN'T THE LONDON REAL FC.

Stick to your Raiders missing the playoffs again this year. Or stick to your Dodgers getting beat again in the playoffs.

    What a loser.

  7. Gosh Chicago has ten million people and KC two million and you find that surprising?

Your brilliance is a shining beacon to us Tony.

    Like a polished turd.

  8. ^^^ Keep sniffing.

  9. America loves the Cubs because their players are American.

Nobody cares about the Royals because their team is imported from the Dominican Republic.

  10. The royals can suck it they don't compete with a REAL TEAM

    Signed,

    Cubs Fan KC

  11. C'mon Tony, don't be a douchebag. Both the Royals and the Cubs played with heart and I'm glad both won in their respective years. And in addition to some of the other good arguments made in these comments, the Cubs had been a team for nearly a century before the Royals were formed.
