TKC TUESDAY QUESTION: SHOULD JACKSON COUNTY VOTERS RENEW COMBAT TAX???

Caveat to start discussion of this question . . . THERE IS NO ORGANIZED OPPOSITION CAMPAIGN.

A very smart local power broker once reminded our blog community that Kansas City politicos and their rip-off consultants often falsely claim overwhelming support for their schemes and candidates when there's NOBODY opposing their efforts.

Example . . . We can talk debate the E-tax but there were only less than a half dozen homemade yard signs opposing the effort. Everybody else was promised their cut and voted accordingly.

And now . . .

COMBAT TAX renewal has the support of local law enforcement and just about every community group in KCMO. But just like anonymous comments, our secret ballot offers protection for those unwilling to tow the party line.

The question . . .

SHOULD JACKSON COUNTY VOTERS SUPPORT THE COMBAT TAX DESPITE THE CURRENT 10-YEAR-HIGH CRIME SPIKE???

More to the point . . .

What's worse is that a great many groups funded by the COMBAT TAX are working to support anti-gun efforts. So local taxpayers who might disagree with the gun-grabber agenda are forced to provide funding in the name of public safety.

As always, you decide . . .

Comments

  1. Fuck no! Let it die. After decades of no results, it's past time to eliminate it.

  2. All those who are funded by it work for the tax because their livelihood depends on it. The tax steals just a small amount from everyone so not worth our effort to work against it. Just basic economics.

  3. Vote no! It does no good! Look around, it's just payback for favorable votes.VOTE NO!

  4. Hell no!!! Stop the free money for grifters.

  5. The thing that really pisses me off is their campaign sign. "Stop the Violence vote for combat tax". Look how long the combat tax has been around and Kansas City is one of the most violent cities. Vote no for the combat tax, it is only feeding corrupt people.

  6. Vote Yes!!! It keeps throwing not only blacks but all minorities and immigrants in jail for the crime of being poor. It also it keeps a majority of the city where blacks live blighted reinforcing the drug activity in that area, and we want the drugs to stay in the black neighborhoods. Also, why get rid of it now? The entire justice system in Kansas City is rigged around Combat, the police are in on it, the lawyers are in on it and of course the judges are in on it. Wether you committed a crime or not in Kansas City if you are defending yourself against a pro-combat judge your guilty, because the judge is for Combat. Lastly, and perhaps most importantly it continues to destroy the lives of thousands of Kansas City citizens every year by entangling them in criminal charges that make no sense to steal not only their private property but their freedom as well. Then the most advantageous thing that Combat has to offer is that it makes a few corrupted elite developers (James Tindall, ..., ..., etc.) very rich, as they get to develop all of the property that was stolen from the poor citizens guilty of being poor.

  8. Love how you never hear about COMBAT until it's up for a vote? If its working so great, why aren't we hearing more about it the rest of the time?

  9. Jackson Cointy is and has been a corrupt institution since pre Tom P days It will never change ask Sanders and White

  10. The tax has a track record of wasted money. I challenge anyone to demonstrate where this tax has yielded any results making the tax worth the investment by tax payers. If this thing is so important just add a dollar to the price of a game at the sports complex...where the real money goes.

  11. Voting to end this. THis town has one of the highest crime rates in the country. So obviously COMBAT isn't working.

I'm also voting down just about every tax initiative on this ballot. Tired of politicians always coming with their hands out but we get nothing in return.

  12. We are obviously not spending enough money on COMBAT. Double or triple the budget and it will be great! That's how government works.

  13. We need the tax to build a giant hypodermic needle for the lawn at the Nelson.

  14. In the interest of critical thinking, can anyone prove that crime would not be even higher if not for COMBAT or KC NOVA, or the myriad of similar programs?

  15. Voted for it since its inception , not this time , bye Felicia
