TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! LEGACY OF CONTROVERSIAL ANTISEMITIC ADVERT AGAINST FORMER COUNCIL LADY THREATENS TO ERODE KANSAS CITY SUPPORT FOR SENATE TEAM KANDER!!!

Kansas City never forgets.

This morning the more BRILLIANT denizens of our blog community remind us of not-so-long-ago Kansas City kerfuffle that still resonates along local Democratic Party denizens who aren't so quick to jump aboard the Jason Kander bandwagon for Senate.

To wit . . .

THANKS TO THE VERY LONG MEMORY OF OUR BLOG COMMUNITY WE'VE REDISCOVERED THIS KANSAS CITY POLITICAL SLAP FIGHT THAT STILL EVOKES HARD FEELINGS AMONG THE ELITE DENIZENS OF LOCAL DEMOCRATIC PARTY CIRCLES!!!

Here's a quick summary . . .

Whilst the Kander for Senate campaign has launched BRILLIANT AND EFFECTIVE attacks against Roy Blunt and his family for their insider connections . . .  MO SecState Jason Kander's wife Diana vehemently denies that she was a lobbyist . . . However, she was, at one time, one of the most powerful operatives in Kansas City political life and she worked on a controversial 4th District At-Large City Council campaign that still evokes hard feelings to this day. Full disclosure: The owner of TKC Basement HQ (I call her momma!) was also a participant of this race during the primary. HOWEVER . . . TKC has always been the most strident supporter of the eventual winner of the post since the general election and championed her efforts to turn KC into a "sanctuary" (of sorts) for immigrants.

But I digress . . .

The important part . . . Diana Kander was a strident campaign advocate and top level adviser in a KCMO 4th District At-Large Council race wherein a controversial hit-piece irked supporters of opponent and eventual winner Council Lady Beth Gottstein. The ad was labeled Antisemitic by local Democratic Party elite.

Here's a response from Council Lady Beth to the advert:

"I was surprised by how quickly the contest became ugly when my critics resorted to anti-Semitism, sexism, exaggeration and absolute lies to defeat me. I remain truly grateful to my supporters who buoyed and believed in me. I have moved on, but many continue to speak of the brutal nature of those who took the spineless, dark road against me . . . "

"This is a direct call for the KKK vote . . ."

 Will Beth back Team Kander??? I would be impressed if they get her support given that she gave up on KCMO political life after snagging a hottie Dr. Dreamy husband. Anyhoo . . .

In a nutshell . . .

LONGTIME DENIZENS OF KANSAS CITY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CIRCLES REMEMBER CONFLICT WITH TEAM KANDER AND THEIR SUPPORT IN THIS CLOSE RACE AGAINST ROY BLUNT IS TEPID AT BEST!!!

We're noting this fact because it's a bit of a correction to our own assertion that Kansas City Democratic Party elite were wholeheartedly and unabashedly supporting the Kander campaign with everything they've got.

Here @ TKC we REJECT partisan talking points and would rather focus on the behind the scenes reality of how the politics in KCMO can easily turn personal.

The reality is that a legacy of hard feelings among KCMO Democratic Party elite denizens and maybe even a bit of jealousy at the meteoric rise of Jason Kander and his wife have impacted their Kansas City support. Never mind that MO Sec State Kander quickly distanced himself from this cowtown and moved to Columbia, MO immediately after winning statewide office and only (smartly) affiliates himself with KCMO sports teams.

Caveat . . Certainly, Roy Blunt has his GOP detractors as well. We all know that middle-class, Conservative white guys can be worse than a sewing circle.

Bottom Line . . . When we're talking about Kansas City Democratic Party leaders . . . Support for SecState Jason Kander might be requisite but it's definitely not enthusiastic or at least with some lingering reservations.
