TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TRASH PICKUP TROUBLES PERSIST IN BROOKSIDE AND SOUTHLAND!!!

Ongoing trouble in nicer Kansas City neighborhoods raise doubts regarding City Hall effectiveness at finding workable solutions after promises to improve trash pickup go unfulfilled.

Remember that our blog community has been leading the effort to hold City Hall accountable for their private deals and consequences for neighborhoods over new rules regarding waste management.

Accordingly . . .

CHECK THIS KICK-ASS TESTIMONY FROM OUR BLOG COMMUNITY EXPLAINING THE KANSAS CITY TRASH CRISIS IN BROOKSIDE AND THE SOUTHLAND!!!

What we like here is that this AWESOME TKC TIPSTER shares an insider perspective and lays out the difference between private trash operations that have endured recent, ongoing trouble and city workers who operate with a great deal of professionalism and efficiency.

And even right now, the outcome of City Hall dealings have kept trash piling up in local neighborhoods over the weekend.

We included a news link reference to City Hall in order to provide a bit of context. Now, here's the word . . .

"Town and Country continues to miss pickups of trash and recycling on assigned days in Brookside and South KC. This is a service provider hired by the city that has violated its contract in the past and, despite promises from the mayor and city manager to fix the situation, trash still sits out on the curb days after the supposed pickup day.

"Areas of the city that have service through the KCMO Solid Waste Division have their trash picked up regularly and no one can explain why, despite the fact that citizens in the affected areas pay the same taxes, they get substandard service.

"This issue is being largely ignored by city leaders and the media alike, but it continues to be a problem that City Hall seems unable to address."

  1. Kc trash problems have been a constant for years. But I do agree with your commenter, they're getting worse.

  2. KCMO = very nasty and trashy

  3. I think basically what we're talking about here is benefits for workers.

The private trash truck people are getting paid good money but they don't have the same benefits (pensions) as city hall workers.

That old statement, you get what you pay for. People in Brookside need to know that.

  4. So, we've got money for trains and hotels but not to keep our streets clean? Typical Kansas City

  5. Are you sure these are Town and Country routes? Our trash in Waldo has been picked up on schedule except for a couple of weeks a few months ago. I don't know about South KC, but much of Brookside's trash is still picked up by Deffinbaugh.

  6. Are you sure it's Town and Country and not WCA? WCA took over for T&C and WCA is horrible. T&C did a good job.

  7. Typical KC insider deal with special contract for Council friend. Contractor has no need for efficiency as they have a friend at City Hall. Contributions for Council person with future job if needed.

  8. Trash, murders, lousy streets, high water and sewer bills, spotty police protection?
    Who cares?
Not the gang at 12th and Oak.
How's Mike's heavily subsidized hotel coming?
When will the free streetcar celebrate its two millionth rider?
Does Sprint Center have its hockey team yet?
Let's keep those KCMO city government priorities straight.

  9. Both T & C and Deffenbaugh were acquired by WCA and Waste Management a year ago. Both have a shortage of drivers and neither is doing a good job in OP or elsewhere. Although it has improved

  10. That is the result of a democrat run city. McManus and Taylor take care of the developers and 1%.

  11. 11:03: Good point. The trucks still say "Town & Country," and the ones in Brookside still say Deffinbaugh," but if WCA's not going to pay their drivers well, they're probably not going to spend money rebranding their trucks, either.

    1. Supposedly it had something to do with a new law requiring the drivers to be drug tested and they lost 50% of their drivers.

  12. Call McManus and Taylor. Even Kander says until you change the people you send there you won't get change.

  13. Good point, 1:38pm.
Wonder how that would work at city hall?

    1. Losing 50% of the employees would sure help.

  14. "What we're going to need to solve this problem is a separate dedicated tax for trash pickup."

  15. Shame on our South KC councilman. They are invisible.

  16. When Ronnie Deffenbaugh sold his company to DLJ Merchant Banking Partners, part of the deal was for his name to remain on all the trucks for a certain period of time. When Waste Management bought the company again part of the deal is for the name Deffenbaugh to remain the company name. The real secret is how long this will continue.

  17. McManus is a no show. There is no way he is doing anything for his constituents.
