The spate of violence in Kansas City continues and this weekend's high-profile shooting over an alleged candy store fight at the County Club Plaza reveals a worsening situation as our local murder count escalates to a reported 7-year-high.
Let's not forget that this town recently earned an embarrassing ranking as one of the most dangerous cities in the nation . . . Meanwhile, local elected officials are focused on development and jockeying for position during election season.
However, word of gun violence on the Plaza has captivated metro news watchers and the Mayor is now forced to confront the same crisis that started his term when he was thrown to the ground in this Country Club entertainment district amid gunfire.

Mayor Sly James Issues Statement Regarding Shooting on the Plaza
“I have mixed emotions. I’m thankful that the victims from the shootings are not suffering from life-threatening injuries and that no additional bystanders were hurt. However, I’m angry that gun violence continues to shatter lives in all parts of our city, whether it be on the Plaza or at 44th and Montgall, where I grew up. We must send a message to those individuals whose use of guns to diminish the safety of all of our neighborhoods. Let’s bring this person to justice quickly by calling the TIPS hotline, 816-474-TIPS, if you have any information that could help.”
