  8. Don't know how much I believe this. Early voting in Johnson County has been heavy. Large voter turnout doesn't typically favor Republicans. I'm hoping all legislators get voted out.

You heard it here first: Trump takes Kansas!

  10. I am sure that Trump will take Kansas, but I am worried about Yoder. He has never been my #1 guy, but I keep an eye on him, and he is doing fine. His opponent is nothing but a scofflaw. If you don't know that word, look it up. Electing him to Congress would be a real embarassment to JoCo, even though people think we are an an embarrasment anyway.

  11. yoder was always going to win.

what is surprising is how some enthusiasm developed for a guy who comes across as a schlub on tv.

a charismatic moderate would have been a better approach, but maybe such a candidate would have known it's a lost cause.

  18. This week in particular displayed the ignorance of city leaders to not understand what we want as a city. Homicides broke the 100 mark, shooting in city market, plaza and Westport are just the beginning. City hall didn't care year after year when police staffing was reduced. Now that crime has approached the areas where law abiding citizens can no longer go and be safe they speak up. I realize this is a new council, but two of them were on the sham of a anti-crime initiative that didn't have a single law enforcement officer on it. They released their findings and didn't address one major issue, policing. Jolie Justus will probably run for mayor, but her district is under siege. How in the hell will she ever garner the support of an entire city if she continues to pander to such a small demographic? Canady has made it clear that she has no love for the police, but continues to chair the Public Safety committee. Kansas City residents must make our city staff realize that we won't put up with this anymore. This isn't news, we all have heard that police staffing is a problem, but we ignored it as rhetoric from the police staff and union. Now we know it's true. We just listened to the mayor talk us into voting for an e-tax that needed to be renewed because public safety is too important, but when he had chances to provide real funding he failed to lead. We cannot vote for any new taxes, bonds, boondoggles until he understands our needs. Public safety is the single most important issue to the voters, and if politicians don't understand that they don't deserve our vote.

This week proved one thing, this city needs help. If the police department suffers from bad leadership then changes need to be made. If the police need more money then changes need to be made. If the wrong leaders are on both sides of the debate than changes need be made. The tax payers deserve better leadership, city hall deserves better leadership, public safety deserves better leadership. No matter what, the voters will be watching, and evaluating, who those leaders will be. We need to vote for those that decide to listen to us. We must let them know we won't put up with new ventures at the cost of our safety.

This city took a huge step back this week. This discussion should have never happened.
