KANSAS CITY SATURDAY NIGHT PLAYLIST!!! TKC TOLD YOU SO!!! DOWNTOWN CONVENTION HOTEL DEAL DOOMED!!!

Tonight the newspaper is "reporting" a conversation our KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY has been having for quite some time.

THE DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY CONVENTION HOTEL IS A BAD DEAL THAT'S DOOMED!!!

For the past few months we've reported this fact and then again earlier this month.

Now it's "news" for the the last remaining newsprint readers to consider . . .

Kansas City Star: Delay of downtown convention hotel prompts concern: Will it ever be built?

Again, TKC reported the one year deadline delay last month and the consensus from insiders, council and local biz seems to be that this scheme has fallen apart behind the scenes.

Accordingly . . .

24 MILLION IMAGINARY TOURISTS STILL ISN'T ENOUGH TO ATTRACT ENOUGH PRIVATE INVESTMENT FOR THIS HIGHLY SUBSIDIZED PIPE DREAM!!!

Still, local leaders double down on cash allocated inside the loop to the detriment of neighborhoods, streets, and services throughout Kansas City.

And all of this inspires our playlist which includes our favorite hotel songs . . .

As always, thanks for reading this week and have a safe and fun Saturday night.

  1. 24 million?

Kansas City has more tourists than Seattle?

    Unlikely.

  2. How much taxpayer money had ALREADY been spent and where did it go?
Better start tallying up the public bill before this fiasco moves to the "we've come this far and can't stop now" phase.
Just another all dreams and no money scheme by the usual suspects.
KCMO: If you can make it here you'll make it anywhere!
    Hahahahahahaha!

  3. Schulte has poured thousands of hours into putting this deal together. Dedicated resources from the City Manager's office. He should be fired for this mis-allocation.

  5. When the current KU basketball players go to look for real jobs at real companies- don't be surprised they have a hard time getting hired. No one wants someone who fails to honor the US and the Anthem. The boys should have thought long and hard on how this gaffe will affect them. I myself will no longer support KU and it will start looking like MU in no time. Good luck guys, but you messed up.

  9. Better yet, let Mike Burke pay out of his own pocket the cost of digging a gigantic barbeque pit where the hotel he tried to ram up our collective municipal keisters was supposed to go. Then we can roast Troy Schulte and the Obese Bowtie. People will pay to watch them roast, people will pay to eat their greasy carcasses. At least we can get a few bucks back and better yet be forever rid of these two municipal parasites. Just as an afterthought, didnt the rotund Schulte get a pay raise last contract extension? Every dime this putz makes is too much! This boondoggle is yet another examole if why these people make us sick :(

  10. Hotel KC Taxpayer -- you can check out any time you want, but you can never leave!

    "Hotel KC Taxpayer"
    Turkeys

On a dark flooded roadway, cool rain in my hair
Warm smell of Mighty Mo', rising up through the air
Up ahead in the distance, I saw a shimmering light
My head grew heavy and my sight grew dim
I had to stop for the night
There he stood in the doorway
    I heard the ToyTrain bell
And I was thinking to myself
'This could be heaven or this could be Hell
Then Burke lit up a candle and he showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor
I thought I heard them say
Welcome to the Hotel KC Taxpayer
Such a lovely place (such a lovely place)
    Such a lovely face
Plenty of room at the Hotel KC Taxpayer
Any time of year (any time of year) you can find it here

  15. Burke's hotel has always been a joke. He thought Sly was going to pay him back for taking a dive in the Mayors race.'

Burke thought Sly was going to give him $300 million in City money, out of which he could take a $9 Miilion developer fee and he could retire to Arizona.

How many millions of dollars has Burke cost City taxpayers?

    1. How many has S'liar cost City taxpayers? My guess is way more than Burke. Something must be done.

  16. This deal is just not going to work until SOMEBODY decides to invest. I remember the Vista Hotel. It was built in the 1980's with no equity. The project was built entirely with borrowed money, federal grants, tax subsidies and city guarantees. It was financial disaster because nobody had any skin in the game. This project seems to be structured the same way. If it is such a good deal, some hotel chain will invest. If it is not a good deal and they don't invest, maybe it is just not a good deal.

8:18 & 10:50, as a fellow white man let me be the first to say, "Shut the Fuck Up, you stupid, ignorant bitch." They don't care what stupid old white men think about them.

Back to the topic at hand: You don't need a convention hotel, because conventions belong to the same era as streetcars. I spent last week helping my friend in California organize a teleconference from my little house in West Virginia. We didn't need to meet in the middle of fly over country & waste their meager resources on food & lodging in a dangerous, unfriendly city.

  18. Don't worry about Burke. He has made lots and lots of money off this deal already.

  20. The goes KC's chance of scoring some high class hookers.

  21. This deal was fucked from the start. And it was a glorified ass-raping of the tax payers of this community. Now the fuckers want US to guarantee THEIR bonds? Isn't that the #1 piece of evidence that this hotel won't meet projections? They say we'll get all these millions and millions of new conventioners. But if that was the case, why should we have to guarantee bonds? That's exactly how this city got strapped paying $10-$14 million dollars per year to pay off the P&L bonds. Queen Kay and Cordish promised us all that we'd never have to pay a red cent towards that. Now, they all have made off like bandits while we are left holding the bag. And now some rich son's of bitchiz want us to do it again with this hotel. It just boggles the mind.
