We have a black police chief and mayor and third & fifth district city councilmembers (they represent the lion's share of the crimal element in Kansas City. And why not? Kansas City is easily going to be in the top 5 most violent cities in the country. Kansas City is concentrating on putting money in the pockets of the already rich, but the poor are living in a war zone. When will those we vote into office ever speak up? Who cares about this city? The chief seems to have lost his voice, and his department has abandoned him. It's time for new leadership. Wake up Sly, do the job you were elected to do.

ReplyDelete@601 The city has had very little say in what the department does for decades. The Board of Police Commissioners runs the department, and is largely ineffective. Their meetings are now televised and after watching last month's they didn't ask a single question about what the chief is doing about violent crime. The city had record killings in August, but in the September meeting they didn't say a word about it. It's time that the city starts saying something about the poor performance. They may not be able do much, but they should be demanding changes. If the bodies were piling up in the northland people would be screaming. 90 killings in a city our size is ridiculous.
