Indigenous Peoples Day In Kansas City!!!
Kansas City has a curious history with Native American culture . . . This town was part of manifest destiny and the genocide against Native people but, then again, ask just about anybody around here on a good day and they'll claim some local tribe as part of their ancestral family tree.
It's football season and the Kansas City Chiefs are rooted in a very deep disrespect and condescension toward Native Americans shared by one of our greatest mayors . . .
Right now, progressive locals are closely following a pipeline project near Native lands whilst conservatives support the measure that presents a clear and present danger to the Missouri River and Kansas City's drinking water supply.
Sadly, because our media is so generic, blonde and obsessed with social media trends . . . They mostly missed the celebration and the larger context of local life that kinda makes this town cool . . . Kansas City stills exist in the shadow of the Native Americans who once occupied this land.
