Craig Glazer: Are Hilary Clinton And Donald Trump Really The Worst Ever?
The media keeps telling us that we have the two most unpopular presidential candidates running of all time. Is that true? I think not. What we have are two candidates under a microscope like never before. Between social media and tv coverage who can stand the heat. Hillary Clinton is involved in several scandals but would they have even been looked at twenty years ago? Ten years ago? Her email computer scam? Well not long ago there were no emails. The Clinton Foundation, that would have been a bright spot a few elections ago. Yes her relationship with Bill Clinton would be an issue, but has it even been a big one this time.
Donald Trump is just a modern day Nelson Rockefeller. Minus Rockefeller's political background. His being a playboy, a billionaire, and a man who says what he thinks not a big deal in the past. He would be viewed as a famous, rich guy out to help America cause he was in a position to do just that. There really are no earthshaking scandals surrounding Trump. Nothing like ones that would have come up in the past if today's media was available not long ago.
Lets look at maybe our most popular president ever, John Kennedy. They called his presidential term, CAMELOT. Really. Lets see: The son of a known bootlegger gangster, which meant funds for his campaign came through criminal acts by his family for sure. He openly cheated on his wife with movie star Marilyn Monroe and many others. John was watched by the FBI cause he was having an affair with a Russian spy or so we are told. Kennedy ran with the 'Rat Pack' and drank his ass off and did illegal drugs. We never questioned where his money came from did we. The list goes on. Oh did the mob help him get elected with the voting scandal in Chicago?
The point is under today's media surveillance who could end up looking presidential? If you had the long political record of Hillary Clinton no way. As for a reality tv star and flashy guy like Donald Trump, impossible. Are they really the two worst ever. The list of questionable past presidential candidates with much more baggage is endless. We simply live in a new world of negative media. Without it candidates would be a bore, thus not much to talk about.
Remember most of what is promised by both sides won't ever happen. It never does. Bill Clinton talked about making marijuana use not a crime. That never happened under his watch, it is now. Obama spoke about those damn credit card interest rates being criminal and he'd do something about it, today some are still over 25% interest. Nobody addresses your life savings being given less than 1 % interest today. That's criminal. Why? They can't do much about it. Or don't care too.
In the end it seems time and social changes are what make things happen much more than the president. Don't get me wrong the president is very important especially with foreign affairs, but changes seem to come with time more than anything else. There are no perfect humans with the kind of money and power it takes to run for president today.

It was a pretty good article, but Rockefeller was a real person, not a cartoon cut-out like Trump.
ReplyDeleteMost of the hatred that Hillary receives is misogyny attempting to be legitimate criticism, though she is clearly criticized for doing things a man would not be criticized for.
Republicans claim they are not racist, yet they automatically hate any Democrat because the Democrats actually try to solve social problems, while the Republican base (especially Trump's) hate people of color, & hate anyone who rejects their discredited notions of eugenics. The actual think that people of color ARE the social problem.
White men still only want white men to have the right to vote.

ReplyDeleteThink story makes a ton of sense but doesn't change the fact one of these two will be our next president. Til the last few weeks seemed Clinton was gonna win easily. Now its a battle. Debates will be a big part of it too. Will Obama voters get the vote out for her? Not sure.

If you want to find out who the true racists might be you might do a little historical research into both political parties and see the facts for yourself.
