#160671 . . . From the fact sheet . . . This legislation would amend Code of Ordinances Sections 70-71, 70-73 and 70-522 relating to traffic and vehicles to give parking control officers the same authority as police officers when directing traffic at and emergency. The legislation would also give parking control officers and city employees acting pursuant to the direction of the director of public works the authority to remove vehicles obstructing roadways.
Our community of experts also notes that this applies to not just abandoned cars but un-tagged and therefore illicit vehicles as well.
To be fair . . . There are a lot of critics, insiders and citizens who call out stepped up towing efforts a part of revenue building efforts given shrinking KCMO funds . . .

Tony, I am thinking the reason for the new legislation is that especially when it snows, if a car is in the way of the Toy Train, they won't have to wait for a police officer to arrive--this new legislation would allow plain old Public Works crews to tag along behind each car of the Toy train, and if a car is too far out from the curb, HOOK EM UP AND TOW EM--RIGHT AWAY! This will speed up the Toy Train, to maybe SIX miles an hour. And cost errant drivers or ones who can't see the tracks and the imaginary line--under the snow and frozen slush.
