KANSAS CITY POLICE CRISIS: JACKSON COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE VOWS TO 'PROTECT CASES' INVOLVING CHILD VICTIMS AMID REPORTS OF KCPD INCOMPETENCE!!!

More devastating news as of late involving accusations against local police and horrific implications for public safety.

Take a look:

AP: "A police unit set up to investigate crimes against children including rape, abuse and serious negligence failed to properly investigate thousands of cases, with some detectives doing no work at all, according to internal police memos that described "gross negligence," ''incompetence" and efforts to cover up the problem."

The latest from the prosecutor's office just now . . .

Response to recent stories on crimes against children

"In response to the recent news stories about the KCPD’s Crimes Against Children’s Unit, our focus at the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office will remain on protecting children and prosecuting those who have preyed on them.

"Our goal today is to protect the cases currently pending against the accused abusers of children. Investigations may be flawed or less than perfect, but that does not mean the defendant is not guilty of the crimes they’ve been accused of doing. We will do everything possible to bring justice for the victim. "

We'll have more on this one and its implications but right now we want to turn to our blog community for guidance and mounting questions about where blame should be assigned.

  1. Better question for you TKC. Is it time for the chief to go?

  2. I'm sure the world is gonna feel so much better knowing that Jean Peterless is on the case. Jesus talk about the blind leading the blind. We need to go outside and hire a chief and bring in some fresh blood or the culture at KCPD is never going to change.

    1. Yes, please! And transfer (or fire) everybody else who was responsible for this ginormous miscarriage of justice.

  3. Just look at how many good officers they have ran off in the past 3 to 5 years while keeping the bottom feeders.

  4. what the hell is going on with KC? You can't even protect children but you want money for hotels and trains?

    No thanks!

  5. The problem is that the Chief assigned unqualified, lazy black detectives there and then protected them from anyone who tried to make them do their jobs. The blame lies with Forte, 100%.

  6. Forte has failed the department with his choices for promotion, transfers and now he's promoting another 6 captains to a mentor program. The department cannot investigate child crimes, reduced homicide and robbery squads. Crime is out of control and no one cares about the victims. What in the fuck is going on?

  7. Promoted the Sgt. to Captain and returned as Captain to CAC.

    1. Shouldn't have surprised anyone that this happened.

  8. KCMO is looking more and more like an irredeemably blighted slum. The two things it takes to reverse a long history of urban decay are critical masses of leadership and money. Neither is happening, and with decades of civic momentum moving across the state line to Johnson County, there's not much chance that they ever will. Sorry to ruin your morning with a dose of reality.

  9. Little wonder that Frank White stole MeanJean's chief of staff! Clifford has experience covering up malfeasance?

  10. REPORTS OF KCPD INCOMPETENCE!..... really?
And when did we first notice this?
KCPD has been incompetent for years.
    Nothing new there.
