is this standard operating procedure in other cities? i know many have darn high taxes at hotels.

If the City can lwn a hotel, then they are willing to subsidize one. Incredible.

our house needs remodeling, what would be the angle to pursue? can we get a ten-year property tax abatement? if so, who's the person to deal with?

KCMO staff and Council giving yet more tax tricks for wealthy, stable parts of the city. They call it economic development, it's really financial favors.
