TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY RALLIES AROUND LADY CYCLIST SERIOUSLY INJURED ON DANGEROUS STREETCAR TRAX!!! CRITICS DEMAND TOY TRAIN EXPANSION PLAN FULL STOP AMID PUBLIC SAFETY THREAT!!!

Right now our KICK-ASS TKC BLOG COMMUNITY is FIRST to report this CRITICAL consequence of unbridled Downtown Streetcar development which has caused SERIOUS INJURY to a woman who is now HURT BADLY and relying on support from her friends.

To wit . . .

DOWNTOWN KANSAS CITY TOY TRAN STREETCAR TRAX HAVE CRITICALLY INJURED A LADY CYCLIST AND HER AMAZING FRIENDS ARE HOPING TO CROWDFUND HER MEDICAL BILLS!!!

And whilst we all may endlessly disagree about transit . . . There's no denying that Kansas City is showing a lot of love for this lady.

Take a look:

Last week on First Friday, OUR FRIEND was enjoying a ride in the Crossroads when her bike tire got stuck inside the new street car track. She was thrown off her bike causing serious injury, including a gash on her head and a shattered left arm.

She went to the hospital that night and received stitches in her head and a referral to a surgeons office. After five painful days of waiting she finally had a successful surgery. Metal plates and pins were used to piece her arm back together.

Now she will need to heal and undergo physical therapy to regain movement in her arm ... This will take time. As you know, she's a barista and will not be able to work until her arm is healed.

With all of these large bills piling up and her unable to work her main job, she will need any help she can get. Let's help out our gal pal whose smile & giggle can melt even the iciest of hearts.

This "goal" is just a conservative guess of what she will owe for her bills...she may need more.

Help spread the word!
##########

And now here's where the plot thickens . . .

Checkit:

CRITICS OF THE TOY TRAIN STREETCAR NOTE THIS INCIDENT AS A DEFINING MOMENT HIGHLIGHTING THE DANGERS OF THE TOY TRAIN AND DEMAND A FULL STOP OF EXPANSION PLANS UNTIL FURTHER STUDY OF PUBLIC RISK IS COMPLETE!!!

Here's the word . .

"It is time for the citizens of KCMO to take a stand. Do we want to continue having a tourist attraction for free loaders OR safe streets for our residents?"

Don't get it twisted, these folks are friends with this lady as well and they are part of the effort to help her back to good health...

"Our friend has been a loyal, amazing employee for over a decade. She recently was injured when her bike got caught in the new streetcar tracks and she was thrown to the ground shattering her left arm. She'll be unable to work her 2 jobs for a little while and we are trying to support her recovery with this fund. Please share and donate if you can . . ."

And now, here's where our blog community can put its money where its mouth is and act on the info we've provided . . .

CHECK THE GOFUNDME SITE OF THIS KANSAS CITY CYCLIST LADY IN NEED AND DONATE WHAT YOU CAN!!!

There will be more debate about the merits of the streetcar but there is NO DENYING that the treacherous trax have come under question and now have injured a woman as her friends valiantly help and hope to prevent further harm.

Developing . . .

  1. Jezz, a shattered arm sound F-ing horrible. Hope this woman can some support. She really does have good friends. I've just visited her crowd funding site and they're blowing it up in just one night.

They're halfway toward their goal already. That's some good news that you can share!

    ReplyDelete
  2. hate to say it because this might hurt all of our wallets but she might want to seek representation. Cities with streetcars have faced some serious complaints from cyclists and the fact is that they just aren't built to accommodate bike traffic.

    ReplyDelete
  3. What's even more sad about this is that the streetcar consultants are going to go after this woman for voicing her complaints and she might even face a boycott at her place of work if she complaints too loudly about the streetcar. The consultants are vicious and they're not taking any prisoners.

They refer to anybody who disagrees with them now as a "social justice" advocate so they can try and sway the public against any criticism. Funny because they're trying to appeal to Johnson County supporters of the streetcar and talk against people in KCMO neighborhoods who know that this will direct resources away from more important needs.

Why are we chasing another streetcar when their is so much crime and fewer police on the streets?

KC needs to get its priorities straight and all the streetcar is bringing is more development money for lawyers and friends of the mayor.

  5. The city will continue to lie and put out numbers that are so false a grade school child understands how phony they are. The number of people injured and property damage in relation to this Folly Trolley has only just started to be recorded. A person should be able to walk or ride a bike down a street in a this town without fear of injury or death based on the infrastructure of said road. Are the edges of the rails clearly marked in a contrasting form of street marking paint to warn pedestrians or bike riders of hazards along side or by the spots the rails run in?

How many of these type incidents taking place do we the general public not know about?

Millions was wasted building this Folly Trolley just so a few political idiots can beat their chests like an ape does over getting a banana. Then all the artsy fartsy, tree hugging supporters who all jump up and down like a bunch of apes when given a banana, all run to their homes at the end of the day in areas not taxed to support this tax payers folly.

Meanwhile the rest of the city is falling apart and down while nobody that should care does such while those paying the taxes sit in a daze wondering how they keep getting screwed like this.

    ReplyDelete
  6. And trolley boy will muster all the debating skills he learned in Coffeyville and herf derf in three... two...

  7. Sounds like a job for the court system, not for kickstarter.

No different than someone slipping and falling on a sidewalk outside city hall in January.

    ReplyDelete
  8. This is sickening! This poor lady not only has injuries that will trouble her through life, but also suffering significant financial damage. At the same time the streetcar people are using taxpayers money to lease three luxury apartments at One Power & Light.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The streetcar folks need to “man up” and pay for the damages they have caused.

    ReplyDelete
  10. No one has voiced more concern over the threat the streetcar poses to cyclists than I have. Last weekend we were all upset over the news that Verrukt had killed someone and the government had never inspected the slide. Now folks are getting seriously injured on the streetcar tracks and because she suffered a gash instead of decapitation, folks are going to make excuses, victim blame, and say she should have watched the cartoon about how to safely ride a bicycle over the streetcar tracks.

    ReplyDelete
  11. I hope she gets better.

My first thoughts were, of course she is a "Barista". That's fuckin it in American today, where your college degree and previous job experience don't mean shit unless you are climbing the ladder of success in local, state and Federal government.

As more and more of our collective tax dollars are siphoned away on bullshit initiatives like this fucking streetcar, built in the 2nd largest city in the US in terms of geography (Who needs a car? Fuck those busses.), misguided social perogatives (Evening the playing field. Translation, paying minority Democrats money to Hate Whitey.), an exponential increase in Federal, State and Local budgets for employees who underperform (The average Federal worker makes $122,000.00 a year, the average private sector worker makes $62,000.00 a year.) and the long, sickening list of Government "you can keep your doctor" failures visited upon us by unelected bureaucrats, it is no wonder, that if 100 people fell off of their bikes and broke their arms, 98 of them would be wearing cardboard hats for a living and working 2 jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  12. President "Liar In Chief" Obama tells us all that unemployment is down to under 5%. What a fuckin liar. There are 92,000,000 people out of the work force that don't count against this specious stat.

War is peace and I will see you tonight at the City Financed GLOCK PARTY.

    ReplyDelete
  13. "GLOCK THE BLOCK"!!! I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  14. I just do not get the concept of the taxpayers providing total support for a trolley that carries tourist. I do get the concept of taking the money that is wasted on the streetcar and using it to reduce the outrageous KCMO water bills!

    2. 8:11; yes because I requested them numerous times before the first rails were ever laid. You're all welcome. I guess Schlitterbahn should post some "ride at your own risk" signs before reopening Verrukt to avoid future lawsuits?

  17. The bicycle advocacy organization for Kansas City, BikeWalk KC, maintains – “Experience in other cities shows that the best and safest way to integrate bikes and streetcars is to put the streetcar in the center of the street and provide a separate bike facility like a cycletrack at the curb. Adding bike lanes along the actual streetcar route can add little to no cost to the overall project while significantly enhancing the value of the street.” GUESS DAVID JOHNSON KNEW BETTER!

  19. Bryan – very good point. It is assumed that Schlitterbahn will be paying out big $$$’s because of the terrible accident there. But in the case of the bicyclist, it is just tough luck. I am not seeing a difference!

    ReplyDelete
  20. ^^^^^One difference is we all use the streets; no one uses them for thrills, and they should be safe for everyone. No one needs to go to Schlitterbahn.

  21. c'mon man...if you cant ride a bike by now ,as an adult without hurting yourself,give- it -the-fuck -up !.

Juicy story. Wonder why the media is covering this up?

  30. Isn't this one of the reasons the city ripped up train tracks back in the 1950's for the more efficient bus system that rides on tires instead of tracks in the street?

    ReplyDelete
  31. There is culpability at City Hall. Experts told them to include separate bike lanes, but they choose to let cars park where the bike lanes should be. KCMO should be held financially responsible for their bad decision just as you and I would.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bike riders are suppose to be watching the road. Narrower tires mean obstacles not encountered in a car, duh. The world is not responsible every time you fall down.

  45. Even the most experienced cyclists have accidents on streetcar rails. I'm really disturbed by the level of victim blaming that has followed this issue. By installing rails in the street and putting parking where bicycle lanes should go, we actually managed to take a step backward on improving safety for bicyclists who have a right to use the street.

This isn't the first and won't be the last bicycle accidents caused by the rails. Hopefully there won't be a fatality, and hopefully folks will stop victim blaming.

    ReplyDelete
  46. This comment has been removed by the author.

    ReplyDelete
  47. It is not victim blaming. It is comparative fault. You of all people should understand that. That said, I am on your side, I think, as a bus rider.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I understand what comparative fault is and because she was operating a bicycle and came into contact with an inanimate object, most courts will find the city has no liability in this accident. This is a huge problem for cyclists in every city with streetcars which is yet another reason why MAX Buses or BRT are better than over priced and dangerous streetcars.

      I'm not an attorney, btw.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Bike riders lives matter. Well kinda' sorta'.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Are streetcar tracks dangerous for bicycles? Yes, streetcar tracks are VERY dangerous for bicyclists. Although the city has put up some signs along the tracks warning of such accidents, bike riders have continued to have problems. The parked cars needed to be removed so bike lanes can be marked. These bike lanes must cross the trolley tracks when necessary at right angles.

    ReplyDelete
  53. 6:30pm – bikes riders don’t matter in KCMO. City Hall thinks it is more important to have a few parking spots along the trolley tracks.

    ReplyDelete
  54. The mayor gives us a legacy streetcar thats a menace, and gets rid of many intersection traffic lights making all those intersections a menace. Thanks a lot.
