  1. One thing Jason that would help alleviate the problem with the food desert is law enforcement. Grocery stores in urban areas (I love that euphemism) close because of security issues like shoplifting and armed robbery and muggings in their parking lots and teens loitering in the parking lot. A grocery store in an urban area is a money loser. Do something about what causes them to lose money; such as arrest and prosecute the shoplifters, the muggers and the robbers. Provide a police presence at these stores to lessen muggings and to discourage loitering. Food deserts are not created by greedy, racist white people. They are created by the people they who live there. You can bet if there is urban (love that euphemism, like teen) violence, local urban businesses get burned. Why would anyone want to open a grocery store in a food desert if you are going to lose money and invite crime and violence?

      They interviewed some young guy who complained by saying, and I kid you not, "there's no place left to rob!".
