Remember Kansas City Magnet Schools???

A public radio happy report from our pal CJ doing a bit of newsie moonlighting offers a nice perspective on a FAILED effort to improve the KCPS which cost Missouri taxpayers hundreds of millions in wasted cash. Meanwhile, locals in the know that this report is actually a better reflection of what happened: Lessons from the Kansas City Desegregation Experiment

You decide: Kansas City's Magnet Schools Were A Dream Realized, Then Gone In A Generation

  1. I remember when George B. Logan Elementary became a French Magnet in the mid '80s. I remember many of the students left the school to Swinney or schools outside of the district. And I don't blame them.

Outside of France and Quebec, no one speaks French anymore. And with the growing Muslim population, it's dying in France. Looking back, I'm shocked Logan survived as long as it did.

    1. Total linguistic ignorance. You haven't been to Europe, or the Caribbean, studied much history, or know anything about world culture beyond your biases. Hint: many muslims speak French as their first language. Do a bit of reading sometime.

  2. I was one of the first students to graduate from one. Ask me how I'm living.

  3. Looks like a snowflake got offended. Tony's Kansas City isn't safe place. So fuck off and take your reading with you cuck.

    1. Offended? No, just amused at your ignorance. Stick to cheetos and Budweiser, which are your true areas of expertise. :)

    1. Your extensive vocabulary continues to amaze. When little kids learn new words, they tend to overuse them, so I get it. Maybe time to branch out a little? That is, if you're not too busy teaching your linguistics class...

  6. I didn't want to comment on this thread. But looking at eight comments about the value or lack of value of a foreign language is amazing. @9:21PM, from your condescending attitude towards the original poster proves is point that you are in fact a "Cuck."

My guess is you took French in high school or college. Took a summer backpacking in France or Quebec thinking it will help you make six figures. Then you look a job and find out that in the United States French might as well be Klingon. No one speaks it and you know you wasted your time learning it.

As for the Magnet Schools. Yes there is a word for a school district that makes a elementary school in midtown Kansas City full of blacks a French magnet. That word is dumb. Money would of better spent is they taught most of the kids at that school English since most blacks don't speak that anymore, in stead of a foreign language that is worthless in the US.

    1. Golly. I'm honored, Sherlock. But let me correct your impressions. You took such time to put them down.

The personal interest is a little creepy, but I'll indulge you. I have a wide education in which foreign languages have played a part. I've lived abroad, done business and traveled abroad. Now, the value of experiences like that might be difficult to explain to the titties n' beer crowd, so I won't bother. Rest assured; I enjoy a good wage in a satisfying profession where brains and breadth of experience are valued.

As far as the value of learning foreign languages? Again, difficult to convey if your horizons pretty much extend to the nearest sports bar. But again, generations of people have found that learning and travel are valuable for their own sake. Doesn't compute, huh? Well, I guess there's a game on, right? :)

Look, you obviously have some kind of issue with magnet schools. I don't. Never went to one. I just chimed in because the original poster obviously had no clue what they were talking about any more than you do.

This word 'cuck' is kind of funny. I guess it means 'someone who knows more than me about something'. Your use of it speaks to deep wells of insecurity. You're threatened by challenges to your little perceptions and your limited knowledge, and when it happens you just throw things around in the sandbox until it feels better. Your little ego just can't stand it!

Sorry to have triggered you, though. Nitey nite, and good luck with the ignorance. ;)

4:20 vous avez tort. Le monde est rempli de gens qui parlent français bien que Kansas City soit remplie de des cons monoglots. Va te faire enculé.

  8. The surviving French Magnet school in KC is one of the most successful schools in the District, despite all efforts of "the experts"to get rid of it. Somehow, I don't think it is because it teaches French. Actually, it educates children (surprise, surprise). If it happened to be a German or Italian or Flemish magnet, it would be successful too. Did you read the article? Did you learn anything?

  9. Ecole Longan was a TERRIFIC magnet school -- right up until the District got control and sabotaged it. That resulted in the Charter School Movement and the FIRST public charter school in Missouri: Academie Lafayette.

Foreign language immersion education -- taught by francophones from all over the world, from Quebec to Belgium to West Africa -- created a leveler playing field for kids from all backgrounds -- and resulted in children for whom the color of one's skin was no more significant than the color of one's eyes.
