ReplyDeleteHow cool!. If these conventions are going to pump 32 million into the local economy we will only need 698 conventions in the next two years just to pay for all the pet projects and wasteful bullshit the city is going to spend your tax dollars on. Wow! We are kicking major ass now. Pure Genius!
ReplyDeleteA tornado or an earthquake could pump the same amount into the economy. Doesn't mean it helps the average worker. Same with conventions. Other than it will increase illegal immigration to clean hotels and give young hipsters a serving job most people will not benefit.

ReplyDeleteThese eight major new conventions total less than 50,000 visitors. VisitKC is going to have to get to work if they are going to have 24 million visitors a year.
ReplyDeleteThese organizations are not stupid. Why would you have your convention in a city that has one of the highest tax rates on tourist; higher than Chicago, higher than San Francisco. There sure didn’t come here, because of a trolley. KCMO’s bids must have included cash grants in addition to free use of the convention center.
ReplyDeleteBuilding a new convention hotel with taxpayers money would pump a lot more into the economy.
ReplyDeleteWhat horseshit. Nobody has ever heard of these companies, etc.
