TKC EXCLUSIVE AND BREAKING NEWS!!! KANSAS CITY TOY TRAIN STREETCAR CONSPIRACY OR ARE WE JUST FORGETTING ABOUT BETTER BUS OPTIONS???

Take a quick peek at this resource and important perspective from our blog community that hopes the emphasize better accessibility for Kansas City metro public transit options.

Here's the word:

TKC, check this link today about a new service for seniors  . . .

RideKC Taxi: A New Way Get Around

And also this week, Ride KC has expanded routes into Johnson County with much better bus service.

Yet we hear no publicity from City Hall about these advances in regional transportation. We rarely hear them say anything about our bus system. All they do is promote the Streetcar.

Do you think there's a conscious effort from City Hall to downplay anything with buses so that people forget about them and instead act like a Streetcar is the only public transit option? God forbid they say anything nice about buses since people might realize they don't need a Streetcar expansion after all.

You decide . . .

  1. Oh so it's the city's job to cheerlead for the KCATA now?

Jesus you white people are as dumb as a bag of hammers.

  2. They do this as a diversion while they rig up the streetcar extension vote to be sure the only people that can vote for this new TDD along main are streetcar supporters.

  4. Bus Rapid Transit is much faster than a streetcar. We need to get that in Kansas City. The Max bus is a form of BRT but there are better BRT systems out there already running in other cities. And much less expensive or disruptive than a streetcar.

  5. Sly's job is to convince people with a wink, a nod, and a frosty tweet that demand isn't tied to income growth, but extra debt.

  7. We need to give people information about how they can get around. The streetcar is just for a limited audience, but the bus serves KC better. The commenter makes a good point.

  10. Lyin' Sly on KMBZ today

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Mayor Sly James says a plan to expand the streetcar down to the UMKC campus has a better shot this time around. A vote to expand the taxing district south and east failed last time. What about further expansions, like into Johnson County or into Lee's Summit? "The discussion right now is just to get it further south to 51st street. Until we get it to 51st street I don't think we can look to move it to a different county or across the state line," James tells KMBZ. Mayor James says he's focused on the near future, since any expansion is at least six or seven years out before riders can board. The Kansas City Regional Transit Authority will present their petition for the new southern taxing district to a judge in September. James says he knows why the last vote on expanding the streetcar failed. "The voters along the south corridor, the south route, voted in favor of it. Those on the east voted against it, and because of that, that's why it failed," says James. "Rather than try to do it in both places this time, I think the people that are with the Regional Transit Authority, that are beyond this plan to move it down to 51st Street are looking at where they know and believe they have support, and built it out that way. It needs to be done." The group that's pushing the expansion will present the petition for a new taxing district to a judge in September.

  11. The same people who got the streetcar done are the ones who advocated for and accomplished the major ATA overhaul that is underway, including Prospect MAX, Troost MAX, Main Street MAX, increased JoCo service, longer bus hours, more frequent bus service, better routes, better stops, etc.

You brand new bus fans aren't fooling anyone.

  12. Sly's right. Build the services that neighbors want in their neighborhoods. Downtown, midtown, the Plaza, Brookside and Waldo voters have all been VERY clear that they support rail transit. East side voters, SKC voters and Northland voters do not. I have to pay for rarely used roads and sewers that serve sparsely populated areas up North , and I don't get to vote on it, but it's what they want, culdesacs and tacky McMansions that look like they were designed in 1987. The east side wants me to keep pouring money into their failing schools, an expensive police department because they can't stop shooting and robbing each other, a fire department and ambulances that mostly serves the East side, sidewalks and curbs and streets where almost no one lives anymore, etc.

We in midtown want to build a real city, which is what this place used to be. We pay for it. We use it. We like it. You guys can fuck yourselves if you don't like it.

    1. No, fuck you. The whole city is what matters, not just your precious little trend zone. When you grow up you'll understand that a real city solves its real problems. It doesn't keep decorating itself with self-congratulatory projects that serve no one.

  13. No more free rides. The streetcar needs to start collecting fares from riders that will be high enough to cover all operating costs.

  17. Trolley boy is once again demonstrating his inability to recall the recent past including but not limited to taking credit for the MAX when, in fact, he was more than willing to deny the east side the Prospect MAX as punishment for not voting his way on the choo choo extension.

As for his incessant claims that "[d]owntown, midtown, the Plaza, Brookside and Waldo voters have all been VERY clear that they support rail transit," why not let those people have an actual unrigged non mail-in vote and see if this claim is true?
