TKC BREAKING AND EXCLUSIVE NEWS!!! GUNSHOTS AT LOOSE PARK LAST NIGHT SCARE DOZENS OF STONERS AND THEIR DANCING KANSAS CITY DRUM CIRCLE!!!
Sadly, the rising quotient of Kansas City violence interrupted a longstanding local stoner tradition at Loose Park last night and sent dozens of middle-class youngsters running for cover as if they were chasing a Pokémon in real life.
To wit . . .
GUNFIRE RANG OUT AT THE TRADITIONAL KANSAS CITY MONDAY NIGHT DRUM CIRCLE DANCE FEST AT LOOSE PARK LAST NIGHT . . . WHICH IS ODD BECAUSE THESE STONERS ARE USUALLY PRETTY CHILL!!!
On Monday nights . . . Midtown Kansas City denizens can smell the weed all the way to Waldo from this drum circle and we've noticed a bigger crowd every year and especially this year given the mobile gaming enthusiasts.
Here's a description of what happened but as with all things on Reddit it's totally fake:
"Hey guys I was just at Drum Tribe at Loose Park and there was a shootout about five feet from me. Everything was cool, people were spinning fire and hooping and playing drums and relaxing, and then a fight broke out right next to me over some guy messaging someone else's girl. A brawl broke out, a couple people fell onto our blanket that were fighting and then they started coming towards us. We grabbed as much of our stuff as we could and started getting away and then I heard the word "gun" and turned to start running and the first shot was a few feet away from me I saw it in the corner of my eye. Booked it out of the park and one of the people I was with called the cops and the cops said they were already on their way. There were 4 shots in all I'm pretty sure, two ambulances came after about 15 minutes so I'm sure someone got hurt. I don't see anything on the news about it yet so I thought I'd let everyone know. There are cops everywhere over there right now. Stay safe out there guys
We checked with a denizen of our blog community and the story is a bit different . . .
"It was a bunch of jerks who never come to the Drum Tribe . . . They thought it was a rave and they were there to start trouble. We have shut these people out before this time they were bound and determined to start trouble. They did."
And urgent text to us last night . . .
"Pokémon Go FIGHT at Loose Park. Gangsters showed up with guns and we were only packing Pikachu! Lulz."
Some confirmation and social media laments . . .
"Can't go nowhere no more."
Gunshots in Loose Park. Please Stay Safe Everyone.
"Thankful we are safe and hoping everyone else is as well . . . "
To be just a bit serious . . . We our journalistic Spidey sense knew that trouble couldn't be far off when the stoners brought in speakers and more dance music to this area behind the pond and amped up their dance party . . . And while we appreciate that youngsters getting baked in the park is just good fun . . . Something bad was bound to happen.
And so the granola pastimes and stoner hula-hoop celebration is that latest party to be crashed by gunfire amid this increasingly violent and Bloody Summer 2016.

ReplyDeleteDon't hate on the stoners so much. Those are the children of the middle-class. Do you think after facing gunfire in the park they're going to want to live anywhere in Kansas City, MO? Doubtful. This kind of thing has been what has sent college students to the suburbs after they graduate year after year. It's not just about the schools, it's about safety and if EVERY event is subject to gunfire in KC, you can see why our population is basically stagnant while the Northland and the suburbs continue to grow.

ReplyDeleteI was packing up to leave the park when the shots went off I was sure it was fireworks until everyone started running.
ReplyDeleteI was there last night a couple feet away from the shooting and when the fight broke out I got down and was scared for my life had to get out of there as soon as I could cops showed up with assault rifles ready and loaded but it was already to late nobody was hurt from what I heard and seen we asked everyone if someone was hit but we got the okay from the people that were still there - please leave the guns at home ! ( positive vibes only)

I was there and there was automatic weapons fire and drone strikes. One dude had a trident. The duck pond is still red with the blood of innocents.
ReplyDeleteDrum tribe used to be a small group / Collective of people that wanted to come and participate in drumming or dancing to the drums. It has slowly been taken over at Loose Park by the EDM crowd and a lot of young and Rowdy people that just want to get wasted. The actual drummers have stopped attending this event and plan to find a better smaller space to facilitate a safe place to learn to drum.
